Just like how Roger's marine rival was Garp. Who is luffy's... Smoker or Coby?

nah i dont think smoker is an agent for dragon or he wouldnt go so hard on luffy

and yeah he was but not by much and he was equally as powerful while smoker isnt at luffys level anymore and coby was trained by the man who fought roger countless times and roger himself said that they almost killed eachother in most of those fights so it just sounds like coby would be a better rival

Coby. Roger/Garp were rivals, but at the end of the day they had a lot of respect for each other. Roger left Ace with Garp because he eventually considered him as a friend. That's the type of relationship Luffy/Coby will have. They may have started as friends, but Coby knows it is his duty to go against Luffy when the time comes. And with how quickly he's improving, it's a matter of time before he passes Smoker anyways. Smoker is too old to be Luffy's rival. Luffy is already ahead of him, and while he is only gonna get many times stronger, Smoker is probably close to reaching his ceiling at this point. Coby has plenty more untapped potential.

Garp and Rodger clashed as equals and on multiple occasions meaning Garp would often chase Rodger. Additionally, Garp seemingly only knew Rodger from chasing him as enemies.

Smoker has similarly been the one Marine to constantly pursue Luffy. Similarly, Smoker pursues Luffy only as an enemy; however, similarly to Garp, he has taken merit to the fact Luffy does have noble qualities such as his one time allowance of their escape in Alabasta. Smoker isn't a spy, he's the White Chase and the Stray Dog of the Marines. He's someone who represents a true justice and won't let anyone get away with bullshit. Similar to Garp.


Coby was someone who basically idolized Luffy as a strong person. He wishes to become the Marine equivalent of Pirate King (an admiral or above). He does not constantly pursue or chase after Luffy like Smoker does (who specifically requested the New World in order to follow). Coby is basically Luffy in the Luffy-Shanks relationship in that someone seemingly at an unobtainable level of power (Luffy compared to Coby) told the inferior one (Coby) to believe in his dream.

Coby is also Luffy in the way Garp wanted him to be... Growing up under him as a strong Marine.



If Coby constantly chased Luffy... I'd say maybe, but the White Chase is Luffy's Garp.

Coby is just the "next generation" of marines so to speak.

its not a matter of constantly chasing luffy, its about who will b vs Luffy at the Manga's dusk n i think Coby will b the one. with smoker's request to b moved to G5 i think he showed that he's past the mentality of only going after Luffy but now after all NW trouble makers, I think Smoker will b more of a Sengeku. The parrallels dont have to b spot on, its Luffy who is Roger's successor(so heir to Roger's will) vs Garp's Student(n remember students carry their master's will). Smoker will b in a way the light that will guide the marines vs the worst generation.

Well one thing I'll say is that Smoker requested to go to G-5... More Specifically the New World with the intent of being there when Luffy returned.

I just can't see End Series Coby getting on a level ground with Luffy...

And while I can accept it could happen, Garp was someone who constantly chased and clashed with Rodger... By the end of series there won't be any chasing and clashing... It will be the end. Coby would have needed to be his enemy from the start.

Smoker has always been after him. Sure a parallel doesn't have to be perfect, but Smoker is literally walking the same path. Besides, being the light to fighting the worst generation not be the same as being the Legendary Garp "The Fist" who charged against Rodger?!

It's easily Smoker it goes completely over me why people think it's Coby...Roger and Garp were not friends they were rivals who had a mutual respect for each others power like Luffy and Smoker. Coby is Luffy's friend while Smoker on the other hand is fighting the Luffy all over the Grandline...

The most free rank is Vice Admiral or Fleet Admiral. He's already one of those ranks. Garp said an Admiral has more authority and less freedom. Smoker won't be an admiral in order to lose his freedom in order to have a 33.3% chance of becoming the Fleet admiral in order to retain the freedom he already has.

So yes. Smoker doesn't want a promotion.

I seriously doubt it's Coby. It would mean that Coby have so much potential that he would shit on Luffy EoS even though Luffy is suppose to be the strongest. Smoker would be the most likely choice. He been chasing Luffy from loguetown non-stop which implies that Smoker is the rival.
