it has some really epic speeches and scenes,

ppl didnt like it because it was kind of a setup for the 3rd movie and most of them didnt get it, starwars cant compare to sams speech, theoden reciting the poem and ents final march to kick sarumans ass (+ the music was so fuking epix i got goosebumps)
Sam's monologue at the end of Two Towers was one of the best speeches in any movie ever!

Here is my list of what I think the strengths of each are

Star Wars
-
Better Video Games
Better Character Development (LOTR's character's personalities don't really change much in the books other than becoming addicted to the Ring)
Faster action, Force powers, Lightsabers

LOTR-
Better story & mythology
More epic speeches and themes.
Wizards, Elves, Balrogs
Symbolism (Star Wars is pretty much straightforward other than comparison between Nazis and the Empire)

They are both amazing movie series/books, yes Star Wars actually has good books also if you take the time to read them.

LOTR = Masterpiece

1) Watch LOTR
2) Look at the list of oscars it won
3) Now watch LORT again while looking out for those elements it won for
4) Now compare those elements with Star Wars

You'll be amazed

I seriously dont get it what is so good about SW (except the force concept is kinda good), I think many just stick to it just because it used to be their fav movie

I'm gonna be honest I only watched it 2 times and I struggled to get trough them at some moments

But I did love Harrison Ford XD

P.S. having a huge fanbase doesent make a thing good, just look at Justin Bieber (not saying SW sux or is bad just pointing the fanbase stuff out)

personally i think there both equal. the books are very intricite well written tolken immersed himself in middle earth making it live and breathe. however i find the movies in comparison with the book a bit stagnent the books have more life in them. star wars was a movie at the time nobody expected to be a hit hense why they let lucas keep the merchendiseing rights. the original movies drew you in from the get go making you ask questions like how did darth vader get in the suit and so forth. the new ones have the reputation of not meeting the expectations but i feel they forget the originals were created for kids to begin with older fans could no longer see the films through the eyes they seen the trilogy to begin with. the only one out of the newer ones i liked personally was revenge of the sith despite some flaws I like that one overall.

Star Wars has been dethroned. Although George Lucas' movies are good in their own right (except for the juvenile elements he puts in to sell toys to finance the franchise), his scripts (which borrow heavily from J.R.R.Tolkien, mythology & religion) can't compare with the brilliance of the literary trilogy `The Lord of the Rings'. Granted, Lucas took on a herculean task in writing & directing his story himself, but Tolkien's words, along with Peter Jackson's faithful adaptation & inspired vision, have created something no one man could equal.

no one is looking at the time the movies were made in.Star Wars the original trilogy was made in 1977 and LOTR started in 1998.It's less then 20 years older. Now imagine all the actors from SW still being young and using the special effects and technology that we have today.Star Wars would be epic.LOTR was made in a more modern time so you can't compare those to when it comes to the special effects.I am a huge fan of Tolkiens literature,it's depth and complexity but still Star Wars is my personal favorite so I am going with star wars. That is just my opinion
