I'm stuck between both...
Though I'm veering towards LoTR...
Either way, the plots of both are awesome/got nice depth.
The LOTR movies were amazing/well done, and same for Star Wars, especially the newer movies (1 - 3).

LOTR:D should have ended like that
if you read the books you would know why they couldnt do that!

you cant compare star wars action plot against LoTR plot and mythology

Where in the Star Wars movies is anything epic, so that you practically get goosebumps? its basically just action (nonepic)

You cant compare star wars to LoTR its almost an insult to LoTR
As stated here, you simply can't compare these two. It's an insult to both of them actually.

These are two completely different stories from two completely different era.
Tolkien worked on LOTR his whole life.
Star Wars is also a huge, huge story with alot of detailed info and can almost compare at the side of LoTR.
But what are you even asking, what is the context of the "versus" ?
As a story? As a complete package? As a movie trilogy? What?
If you are comparing wich is a better story, ofc LoTR takes the cake here.
Not only because it was created during that time and by a lifes work but only due the magnitude of the detailed places, people, nature, culture and the list just keeps going on and on.
But as movies I should say Star Wars since it was made before and mainly used without computer animation and all that but solely on puppets and make up and robotics.

Lord of the Rings, no doubt there. Though I consider Star Wars as the future version of LotR. LotR covers the past while Star Wars covers the future.

Still based on books, movies and everything overall LotR is IMO just better. Saying that the 2nd movie of LotR wasn't good is not even an argument. Tolkien wrote LotR as a whole, not parts. The only reason as why they divided the book in 3 parts was due to the materials being extremely expensive to make such a thick book. It was somwhere in the '50 that LotR was published. Tolkien himself loathed the idea. They made three movies because you can't make a movie of 10 hours for the cinema ~_~

LotR is just better, but that's my opinion, irrelevant from the fact that the most of the SW movies are older than the LotR movies.

as he said, if you watch The Two Towers and understand it its not a bd movie, it is great

Dont get me wrong i like star wars too

but but the movies arent just about Lord Of The Rings, the story in the movies is based on basically all Tolkiens works (LoTR, Hobbit, Silmarillion, appendixes ...)
there is mythology, there are languages, there is a whole earth, there is a history of many thousands of years

and you cant feel with star wasrs as you do with LoTR (either movie or book)

and you dont understand the extent of LoTR movies nor books if you dont read the silmarillion at least not to speak of the appendixes) but even without that it is an extremely complex, epic and well done work with which you can feel if you read intently

this is why star wars can not be compared to LoTR (no scenes like this):

Ride of the Rohirrim:

Sams speech:

Last march of the Ents:

Theoden recites the poem:

The last ride of Aragorn and Theoden:

Aragorn speech:

Pippins song:

Gandalf on death:

Aragorns army:

Gandalf VS Balrog:

...

and than there is LoTR music:

...

I don't even want to get started on the books!

I never got in to LoTR, but the story seems good. Weird, considering I like Harry Potter and Star Wars alot. Seems like I could adapt to a new world, but I couldn't. I hated it, but a funny Tobi LOTR trailer seemed good XD

But I LOVE Star Wars!!!!!!!!!!!! I vote for it!
