well every attack labeled as ninjutsu or genjutsu is not just chakra based but also chakra-projected but in different forms.
We know that there is six types of elements: wind, water, fire, lightining , earth and yin and yang elements of course.

In short every jutsu is either:

- just chakra projected
- chakra projected + form
- chakra projected + specific element among six
- same as above + form

However now we have problem as space time element used by obito ms or gravity usuable by rinnegan is not listed nowhere.
The best assumption would that these are just exclusive and uniqual elements to doujutsu.

In other word same principles about four possible mechanism how jutsu work could apply to them as well.

if chakra get sucked from barrier then space time element will be left alone making it unable to still be manifested/ exist. In other words barrier will cancel and black hole closes.

Conclusion: kamui is just chakra- projected attack manifested through space time element taking on its attributes to loom like no chakra is involved but just space get bended and wraped. However kishi explained how kamui by placing space barrier at limited area and every barrier is made of chakra.

I would say that only the outer edges of Kamui is made out of chakra and not the whole that is created, so if you absorb the chakra it would just close the whole.
