LOK had much more potential at being a 'mature' show, but it never quite got there. Amon had so much potential as a villain, but he was beaten in a rather BS way in my opinion.
Apart from that, the annoying love triangle that this show simply can't let go of is infuriating. I want to like Mako, but it's impossible because of Korra and Asami always getting in the way of his development. He had a good run for about an episode there where Korra left, but then Asami ruined it.
ATLA however, had extremely good build up to its climax and had an overall storyline to go off of. I don't care if it had filler or whatever, at least the series showcased all its characters throughout its show and nearly all have them had moments of importance.
LOK has a small scope of characters. ATLA had a much larger one.
The climaxes to both seasons of Korra were rushed, and they both ended in ways that were not foreshadowed. For instance, Korra getting her bending taken away, yet suddenly she can airbend? How? That was never foreshadowed and had no build up. It's the same for the final battle of season two. Korra turning into a giant blue spirit thing? All because she meditated in a tree? Why didn't Tenzin go in there and do it? You obviously didn't need to be the Avatar since Korra wasn't at the time. I don't agree with you when you say it builds up future events because of those instances ^
I think ATLA is much better in all aspects. It had much better twists and turns, and it had an actual overall plot. I also prefer Aang to Korra big time.
