Little Girl
One, two, three, she counts the weeks,
As they seem to crawl on by.
She reads the notes her daddy's left,
And she struggles not to cry.
She hums the notes to her daddys song,
As she lies awake in bed.
Wishing the words would come back to her,
But lost inside her head.
There are words that she remenbers,
But they just don't sound the same.
Her daddy had the softest voice,
The words to him just came.
He'd sing to*her each morning,
It was how we'd start our day.
He'd whisper them at times,
When he didn't know what to say.
It bothers her to have lost these words,
When*she remember singing along.
My daddy would turn and smile,
Knowing this was*their song.
Toher it was his own,
To him it's something*they shared.
They*knew*they loved eachother,
And so*they showed they cared.
She have always turned to daddy,
For he has never lied.
Then*she met new people,
And*she pushed*her daddy aside.
It hurt him to see*her leave,
Still he knew she'd be alright.
So with one arm he'd let*her go.
With the other he held on tight.
Then*she found a man,
Who was similar to*her dad.
He loved*her more than anything,
Held*her when*she was sad.
The day*her daddys been waiting for,
Has made*her daddy weak.
He walks*her down the isle,
Without a word to speak.
He waits for*her to say the words,
He's told*her all*her life.
Loving*her as his daughter,
And seeing*her as a wife.
He'll always see*her as his girl,
Who shares his special song.
She'll*always see*her daddy,
Whos loved*her all along.
Her*daddy sees*her smile,
And hums*his song once more.
So*she whisper it back into his ears,
Like*she had many times before.
He held*her close and closed his eyes,
Kissed*her tears and walked away.
Returning with a box for her,
Told*her to wait for another day.
One, two, three, I counted weeks,
Since*my daddy has passed away,
Not knowing when the time was right,
And knowing now it's okay.
So*she dug the box out my daddy gave me,
Wiped the dust off from the times gone by.
She*opened*it up pulled one out,
Then Began to cry.
Inside were letters from*her daddy,
From every year of*her life plus one.
The extra letter were the words to*their special song,
When she finished reading them*she realized it was done.
Her*daddys song was finished,
For the final words would say.
My little girl isn't little no more,
Since I have given her away.
