well was wondering about other ways i could just use my chain for defending
There aren't many ways. The Chainned Sickle is an offencive weapon. Well, there is a stance you can adopt to aid you in deffence.

Shorten the chain by folding it and leaving like 3 or 4 rows inbetween your hands. Just as if your were grabbing a nunchaku with 4 chains.

Thats a good way to counter weapons and swords, because it allows your to make joint locks. The pressure could also break some long blades.

If a person comes to you with a straight forward puch, kick or trying to retrieve a straight foward strike with a sword or similair weapons, you can have the fist, foot or blade pass between the chains, and as you rotate your hands or twist your body, you can maneuver your opponent articulations into making him move as you want him to move.

From that first lock, you can preform arm bars, joint locks etc, which you can use to make your opponent quit before you harm him or even break some bones.

Well, it's solid structure is good to act as a shield. Also you can use it in a very funny way:

you can drop one tip of the kanabo on the ground, while you hold the other tip. While the bottom part is stuck on the ground, the top part is free for you to swirl the kanabo around, meaning that you have a barrier that separates you from your opponent all the time.

If your opponent goes to the left, you move to the right.
If your opponent goes to the right, you move to the left.
If your opponent decides to strike you (with a weapon, a puch, a kick, etc), you lean the kanabo, forcing your opponent's body to that side. What does that mean? It means that you're creating openings on the opposite side.

Combine that with a barehanded strike to your opponents head, you can knock him out.

If a person ducks and strikes you, how would you stop your momentum?
well to u could just move the kanabo down then they would have no chance to go under it but with that kind of movement u woulnt realy

cause i mean if ur moveing that fast to rotate it then all u would have to do would be change levels or do u pattern to block them from getting to u

Well, if you're rotating at such speeds, then your reaction time is shorten, because your sight is blurred. But even if you create levels, if an enemy manages to slip under or over the kanabo, then you're pretty much screwed, right?

xd

Well, it's not much, there weren't many information. But I found this video:

And from 6:50, he uses a massive log which is very similair to a Kanabo. It will show you your limitations once he fights with a lighter guy

lol ok well see that a kanabo is useless if ur opponent can move
Pretty much, yeah.

Well, If you create a taijutsu style where you utilize Earth chakra in combination with your kanabo, it could became a pretty lethal weapon.

For example.

If you slam the Kanabo on the ground, your earth chakra immediatly pushes the kanabo out, with great force. Like pinball with the floor.

And spontaneous earth pillars could pop from the ground to stop your rotation
