Shikamaru commands great respect. The alliance take his orders, Obito was impressed with Shikamaru being able to recognize the Demonic Statue as the Ten-Tail's body, and Shikamaru lead the party to go and rescue Sasuke.

Charisma is the attitude needed for changing hearts. Between Naruto, Sasuke and Shikamaru, Naruto is the only one who has it (maybe Sasuke in a very lesser level). Shikamaru stated clearly that the one who becomes hokage needs to be able to change hearts... don't expect Shikamaru as hokage.

Born as natural leader? Fail. To have leadership you need charisma and trust on others. Shikamaru lacks the first one, Sasuke lacks the second one.

Naruto has the charisma to run a village and he's the best friend of the Kazekage and has gained the respect of the Raikage and Tsuchikage. If you look at it from a diplomatic standpoint, Naruto is easily the best option, Shikamaru (my favourite character) doesn't hold as much weight. The Hokage doesn't take decisions alone, Shikamaru and others by Naruto's side would help him make the right ones and as we've seen, Shikamaru trusts Naruto and vice versa.

1) I do agree that both Naruto and Sasuke are not ready for the position. Keyword being 'yet'.

2) Wisdom is attainable, Naruto and Sasuke could be smarter if they wanted to. This manga is pushing the notion of classifying people to the extreme. Real life isn't like that.

3) Shikamaru is smart, thus he'll probably leave the position to Naruto. He said it himself, Naruto is a natural leader. "When I'm with Naruto, he makes me want to follow him"

Shikamaru has plenty of charisma. He's currently leading the shinobi alliance. We have seen panels of him telling the shinobi alliance what to do and reassuring them.

They all trust, respect, and believe in Shikamaru.

I wouldn't be so sure. He moves other people just because he commands them. Naruto in the other side creates atmosphere for trust, this is the true meaning of charisma... Shikamaru hasn't changed any heart.
