sorry for the wait, those who are reading this.

Sitting in this chair has to be the worst day of Matt’s life. A court martial, after all he had done for the Australian Army. 6 months ago, his friendship with Daniel Hunter ended and he lost everything. And to make matters worse a stuck up douchebag’s pounding him with questions.
The judge speaks. “Captain Matthew Wolfe, 3rd platoon, Charlie Company, Australian army. You stand accused of desertion and incompetence in the field, which resulted in the death of a soldier under your command-“
Matt interrupts, “He ranked higher than me-“
“Your command.” The judge continues. “Do you plead guilty?”
Dan smirks cruelly at matt, who glares at him in return.
How could he do this?
“..Yes”, Matt’s voice shakes with the weight of admitting the truth.
The prosecutor saunters over, arrogantly. An air of pompous authority prompts him to look down his nose at the disgraced warrior.
“Mr.…Wolfe. Would you please tell us your version of events?”
Matt pauses. “Well...”
I don’t know where to begin.
The prosecutor looks down his spectacles, inwardly cheering at the chance to talk shit to Matt.
“Are you aware that you swore to speak the truth, only the truth and nothing but the truth?”
Matt still remains silent.
Yes I remember, he thought. The lawyer is about to address the judge when Matt finds his voice.
“Charlie company had received Intel that.... We had come under attack, and Thurman took our humvee to break through the wall boxing us in, and take out two gunmen pinning us down, knowing full well it was a suicide mission. My men covered me as I went to extract him from the crash, but –“
He hesitates, his voice breaking with emotion. Tears flow down Matt’s cheek.
I still remember his screams. “So you abandoned your men?” The ******* lawyer intercedes.
“Yes but –“
“You were aware that desertion is punishable by firing squad?”
“It was rescue, not desertion-“
“You see? He confessed!”
The judge banged his hammer on the desk to interrupt them.
“Order! That is quite enough. Captain Wolfe, continue.”
Matt recovers and begins to talk again. “I got to the humvee but the door had jammed. Thurman ordered me to leave him and help the others get out. He knew what he was doing.”
His head drops in despair and regret. But the lawyer persists.
“You see your Honor? He willingly abandoned his commanding officer in a war zone, while deserting his men in an incompetent and dangerous attempt to rescue him. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury...”
“There was nothing I could do!” shouts Matt desperately, “Please...the army is my life.”
The judge bows his head in understanding. “There is nothing fair about who lives and who dies…and who goes to jail. This is why I am sentencing you to 5 years probation and house arrest. And you are lucky to get that, captain. Do not test your luck. Take him away. This court martial is adjourned.”
So it is over, thinks Matt. His defeated sigh echoes and he weakly allows himself to be dragged away by the guards, as he gives one final look of pure hatred and rage toward the smirking Dan, his former friend who sold him out. The last thing Dan said to him was for him to never talk to Dan ever again. So be it.

The radio crackling breaks Matt out of his memory. Jack grunts.
“Damn it.”
“What is it?” Matt asks.
“Seth is calling for reinforcements.” Jack answers.
Matt nods expectantly. “Of course he is. Pack it up. We’re leaving.”

Drip...Drip...Drip.....A familiar sound in my head...A sudden gunshot-like sound awakened the figure, who groans in agony, like she had been put through a blender made of diesel engines.
“Ah...my head”, she complains. “This was a real good idea...”
The woman clutches her head and stands up groggily. She hears voices in the background, one of which she hadn’t heard in 12 years.
“Nightmares?”A feminine voice asks in the background however the woman could barely hear it over the pounding in her skull. The second voice is far more deep and gravely.
“Yeah.”
The woman is startled by the presence of others. Bad news. I have to hide. She stumbles as quietly as she can through the garage, for that is what she thought she had landed in, and hits a cluster of pointy things. Guns.
“Shit.” The brunette curses under her breath. Then she simply helps herself to a handgun and rifle, strapping them to her shoulder, as she seems to know exactly how to use them. The voices echo again from inside the house.
“Have you loaded everything?” The deep voice asks.
“As best I can on short notice. Seth could be hurt badly already.”
“Go and check the garage for my Glock.”
“Do you think-“
“Please, Chas?” the voice pleads.
Chas? The woman frowns. Too late. she could already hear footsteps approaching, and the sound of the voice sighing exasperatedly. The door creaks open....
“What the actual fu-?”
