In real life, sound is a vibration that causes pressure and displacement through a medium. The "sound" humans hear is their interpretation/perception of these vibrations.

In the RP, it's a highly sought after ability form of ninjutsu that uses chakra-infused soundwaves to attack the enemy. This was utilized primarily by Orochimaru's experimental Sound ninja.

I like the separation of Sound into different frequencies and energy levels. That thread is very descriptive for the basics. Didn't know it was composed of lightning and wind o_o

Regarding the Sound-induced genjutsu description, it says something along the lines of "high-frequency, low energy"... that's impossible in physics due to the relationship between energy and frequency... but this is a Naruto RP :lol

Wind's the primary counter to Sound, if I recall. Orrrrr... being deaf xd

What are your insights, nephew? You're the one teaching me :)

Sound in real life is caused by two molecules vibrating within a medium and is considered as a mechanical energy. Sound needs a medium to travel, so there is no sound in space since there's no molecules for it to travel through. Sound can travel through solids, liquids, and even air. The sound frequencies are measured in Hertz, and a frequency is basically the amount of sound waves passing a certain point in a certain amount of time. Obviously, high frequencies = high pitched noise, low frequencies = low pitched noise, and humans can hear about 20-20000 hertz. Sound waves are generally characterized by frequency, wavelength, wave number, amplitude, sound pressure, sound intensity, speed of sound, and direction. Through gases, plasma, and liquids, sound is transmitted through longitudinal/compression waves while in solids, it can be transmitted through longitudinal and transverse waves.

That is my 'condensed' (>.>) explanation of Sound. This is the scientifically-smarter explanation Chris taught me.

Frequency

First of all, a frequency is measured in Hertz. A frequency in theory is how many waves pass a certain point in a certain amount of time. So, basically, the lower the interval, the higher the frequency.

Now, the cool thing is, adjusting the frequency. A higher frequency is a higher pitched tone, while a lower frequency is a lower pitched tone. If you listen to music and hear the bass, the frequency is lower. You can also feel it in your body a lot more than high frequency tones, because generally those are harder to perceive in the first place. The neat thing is, that this allows us to alter the effects of sound techniques by altering the frequency. That being said, you probably see how versatile sound actually can be, and how it can create different effects. Even if you can't hear something, the sound waves are still there and can still have effects on your body. You can alter waves to create varying effects on the body.A key example of this is Wesobi's not-so-sanitary-custom (see spoiler below)
Ototon: Kasshoku Bunsho - Sound Release: The Brown Note

Description: First believed to be an urban legend, it took wesobi a long time next to an insane amount of effort and diapers to achieve completion on this technique. The user start by creating high power sound waves in his throat. The frequency is below 20 Hz, meaning that the human ear can’t hear it. Even though the human ear can’t hear it, the opponent his body will still feel the vibrations. The vibrations cause the opponent’s bowels to involuntarily work, and thus making the opponent lose control of their bowel movement. This results in content of the opponent’s bowels leaving his body. To counteract the effect on the user himself, he also focuses high frequency sound waves around his body, to counteract the effect.

Humans can only hear certain frequencies, or a range in between 2 frequencies. Generally, this is about 20 - 20 000 Hertz. Now, as you grow older, your body gets older as well, and you start to have trouble hearing high frequency tones. This is why younger people generally hear a lot better than old people. I was wondering if you speak in a lower voice, if people with hearing problems would understand you better, but I'm unsure (though it makes sense).
This does not mean that higher/lower frequencies do not effect the body! Remember that!

About the ultrasonic: Ultrasonic are simply sounds above 20 kiloHertz (20 000 Hertz) and thus above what humans can actually perceive. Other animals, like dolphins and dogs can perceive these (think, the dog whistle). These range from 20 KiloHertz into several MegaHertz. This is also what they use for sonograms (you understand what this is?) and such. Infrasound is the opposite (below 20 hertz).

(Ototon: Naiteki Ne no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Inner Sonar Skill

Description: The user will enhance their hearing by infusing his ears with sound chakra. Then, by utilizing chakra and enfacing his lungs, the user will be able to control the frequency and intensity of the sound emitted from his simple breathing. This low frequency, inaudible sound is passively emitted and has no effect other than emerging from him and bouncing off of objects. Using the enhanced hearing, the user is able to know where everything is around them, effectively creating a sonar effect through the rebound and reflection of sound waves. The hearing and the sonar effect is precise enough so that one can effectively use it to substitute one's vision in battle if needed. Despite being very effective, specially if the user has any of his other senses hindered, it also leaves the user vulnerable to sound genjutsu or sound attacks which will be much more drastic in its effects.

This one's cool, and really useful but it can backfire on you. Basically a way to sense things through sound waves.

So, back to the jutsu: it's basically sensing using sound, though it's unique in its own right as it utilizes sonar waves and enhanced hearing. The technique works by using sound chakra to enhance hearing (idk how that works exactly but it's an anime RP so I'm sleep) and using that same sound chakra to mix with your lungs and breathing, essentially causing the user to emit low-frequency sound waves that are inaudible. These waves are passive and bounce off objects, giving the user a sense of context and place. Basically, sonar z.z

It's good for a substitution for sight, though it leaves the user vulnerable to sound gen or jutsus. I can see this being a great counter for Sharingan users since they rely on visual-based genjutsu, and for fights where visibility is severely restricted.

Using wind techniques will disrupt the soundwaves, and setting up different obstacles or distracting their sonar skills with a multitude of objects seems like the best standard counters.

Yes, it also acts as a double edged sword, because by enhancing your hearing, you would be vulnerable to loud sounds like explosive tags, bombs, etc, so be careful when using this technique.

(Ototon: Chūnyū no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Infusion Technique

Description: A simple technique where the user touches an object and infuses it with sound chakra, enabling it to vibrate and produce a low frequency, high amplitude sound. The vibrations cause objects to bounce off of the targeted object which is highly useful when fighting with weapons or to make thrown basic weapons resist opposing thrown weapons.. It also resonates to the user if he were to be blind (because of a genjutsu for example), letting the the user know the objects position and what it deflects. It can also be applied to solid objects or structures the user may wish to destroy or, by applying it to the ground or similar, detect what is around him by making it resonate with the same low frequency. The object gets no added power, only the ability to deflect incoming objects that want to counter it.
You infuse an object with sound chakra which allows it to vibrate and produce a low frequency, high amplitude sound. The vibrations from the sound chakra creates a "repulsion" effect, in a sense. Basically, anything that comes in contact with the object would bounce off, so for example, if you used this technique on a kunai, and the enemy tries countering it with another kunai, their kunai would simply bounce off. It also resonates to the user, allowing one to "know" the position of the object and what it deflects.

How would you use this technique in battle? What are its drawbacks?

I'd use this technique to enhance my own, hence the "supplementary" nature of the jutsu.

Some questions: can this be considered a "defensive layer" over the infused object? What equivalent defense can this be equated to (in terms of rank, etc.)

I like how it can be used to destroy objects and structures. Up to what rank can it do so?

Strategically, I could infuse a kunai with this and surround the battlefield, creating . Would performing the Shuriken Shadow Clone technique duplicate its effects on other kunais?

Drawbacks: Range, need to be close to desired object to use it. However, if I use a projectile this is somewhat negated.

Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions :/

@2nd question: It has to abide by elemental strengths and weaknesses. I can't give you a definitive rank, because each solid has different interactions with sound. But it must abide with elemental strenghts and weaknesses.

What is sound strong and weak to? I don't think we ever went over that :(

So this is basically like a sound clap that disperses techniques. Nice o_o

Can I assume it can damage hearing too?

So, Wind is strong to Sound techniques since air is the medium of sound, it'll disrupt its frequencies and whatnot. Sound is strong to Earth because it can shatter and crumble it and also strong to water because it can disperse it and in most cases, sound techniques used under water are strengthened by 20 o-o (though it must be explicitly stated in the actual technique)
It's also weak to gaseous elements and neutral to fire and lightning, but fire can make the speed of sound increase bc it increases the movement of molecules and all that fancy chemistry thingies.

Upon utilizing an attack involving the aforementioned limb, it causes a release of sonic vibrations (of a low frequency but with a high amplitude) that act as a secondary strike, making the opponent unable to use the body part that has been hit for 1 turn. This happens because the sound vibrations damage soft tissue by resonating within the water molecules that reside within it. The effect is similar to a localized explosion upon contact that rips through the targeted area and creates a shockwave that blasts the target backwards. The skill is exceptionally useful if used against solid techniques such as those from Earth Release (or similar) which will shatter upon being hit.
This ones a cool technique. By gathering sound chakra into one of your limbs, you can physically strike the opponent. The chakra releases low frequency, but high amplitude vibrations that makes the body part that was hit unusable for one turn. This works because the vibrations damage the tissues by directly affecting the water molecules within it. This creates a localized explosion upon contact, similar to a shockwave, that can blast the target back. Its useful against solid elemental techniques as well.

What uses do you find for this? What are the pros and cons of this technique?

Despite weakening as it travels, its faster than most wind or lightning techniques and can still be defended from. If used within a water source it receives +20 damage.
Okay, you gather sound chakra into your throat and exhale it, whilst screaming, yelling, or roaring. You release the sound chakra in the form of a large shockwave of low frequency and high amplitude sound, destroying anything in its path (not literally, lol. but like, if theres no-ranking obstacles, then it would easily destroy it). It's quite fast and most effective if used within a water source, where it gets an extra 20 damage.

What uses do you find for this technique?

First technique is good for taijutsu battles as an element of surprise. Obviously, range is a disadvantage. Reminds me of Kuma/Whitebeard's power in One Piece, having to deal with vibrations and shockwaves and whatnot. I can use it to wreck elements as well, like Earth. To counter, I'd react to the punch by dodging it or spamming lightning; looks like if I touch an opponent using this, it would be bad for me!

Second technique can be used as a shockwave attack or a way to defend, repelling anything in its path. This one seems quite popular among sound users. If fighting in a water-based area or having a water technique hit me, I'd enhance my own sound technique for added damage.

( Ototon Genjutsu: Funka to Botsuraku ) - Sound Release Illusionary Art: Eruption and Downfall

Description: The user charges Ototon chakra into his hands and snaps his fingers, triggering a genjutsu through the emission of high frequency sound waves. As he snaps, the sound is amplified, sounding as if it is directly by the enemy's ear. To them, it sounds as if something has just snapped in half. The user then manipulates the illusion to make it appear as if either a large branch has fallen from a tree or the ground under them has broken clean in half, causing the target to believe they are falling through the earth or have been struck with a large object, pushing them to the earth. The user has control over the illusion, being able to make it seem as if entire trees have been snapped in half, falling on the target or as if an earth structure has collapsed either above or beneath the opponent, etc. The illusion can be edited to fit the situation and even the sound can be slightly altered deepening on the object that is "snapped". Is more effective depending upon the terrain this is used in ( extremely effective in a forest, not effective in a desert ).

You induce an illusion with a snap, and once the enemy hears the sound, it will induce an illusion. The snap is amplified, well the sound of it is, and it makes it sound like it is directly in the enemy's ear. The illusion is simple, basically, it makes it seem as if a large branch from a tree (if the terrain has trees) has fallen, or if the ground has been split in half. However the illusion is not all too restricted, it can be altered slightly to fit the situation better.


( Ototon: Teisei Tame Inu) - Sound Release: Whispers to the Canines

Description: The user gathers Ototon chakra in his vocal chords. He then whistles, releasing a high frequency sound wave, creating a sound similar to a faint buzzing in the target's ear, similar to Ringing Madness. However, instead of causing a foe to become disoriented, it impairs his hearing, making the buzzing the only thing that he can hear, seeming as if the target has bees swimming around his ear. The buzzing drowns any sound out, unless they are exceptionally loud (i.e. great explosions, one yelling directly into the target's ear, etc), making it very difficult for the target to hear incoming jutsus or attacks.
Note: Hearing impairment lasts 3 turns

this basically creates a faint buzzing int he target's ear, which hinders the opponent's hearing. The buzzing thing will be the only thing they can hear, as if he has buzzing bees in their ears. It blocks most sounds out.


(Ototon: Himei Zetsubou no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Scream of Despair Skill

Description: Similar to the (Ototon: Hibiki Rendan no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Echo Assault Skill, the user concentrates chakra into their vocal cords, amplifying his/her voice and lets out a scream, roar or a yell. The effect is a large emission of low frequency, high amplitude sound waves but instead of a forward attack, its manipulated into an omnidirectional sound blast that expands outwards all around the user, pushing attacks and enemies backwards with might.

You amplify your scream/roar/yell via sound chakra. This results in releasing low frequency, high amplitude sound waves that creates an omnidiretional blast of sounds, expanding outward from the user that pushes anything back.

Basically echo assault skill but in an omnidirectional manner. ;p AND ITS KIND OF LIKE SHINRA TENSEI but only short-range and B-rank ._.
Alright, explanations are int he quote. Give me strategies for each one pls.

First jutsu is a sound gen. I like how you snap to create it, and it can induce the illusion of the terrain breaking. I can use an Earth jutsu to begin breaking up the ground beforehand, while sneaking in a snap to layer a gen on top of it, making it harder for the opponent to metagame out of it :snick:

Second tech impairs hearing. The buzzing would be irritating as hell, and can serve as a cover for loud, conspicuous techniques. I'd use it to cover my tracks.

Third tech has similar strategies as Echo Assault, but I like its omnidirectional fashion. Good for pushing back tai users or even as a deterrent for enemies that want to get too close.

Any tips or tricks on your end, sensei?

I dunno. For the second one, it's a good technique to use when you want to kill your opponent from techniques coming from behind, below, or above, since they won't be able to hear what's coming... Like the one that summons mud above them. Yeah. U_U
Third one, i'd use it to push my opponent into obstacles, but of course, it's only short-range, so that's more tricky. \

Description: This is a much greater and focused version of the (Ototon: Hibiki Rendan no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Echo Assault Skill technique in which the user gathers his sound chakra into his throat as he inhales afterwards exhaling as he screams, yells or roars. The resulting effect is a massive forward shockwave of low frequency, high amplitude sound that levels anything in its path. Unlike its weaker technique, the massive power it carries makes it slightly slower, equal to an average equally ranked Raiton technique. Unlike the unfocused nature of its weaker version, its focused almost like a beam, affecting an area of 50º in front of the user. If used within a water source it receives +20 damage.


Questions on this one? We've seen this technique in weaker versions so it's not hard to comprehend. o-o

Okay you slam both your hands together, amplifying it with sound chakra. The hands resonate with each other due to the sound chakra and explodes outwards, creating a shockwave that is 160 degree wide to push anything back.. It's basically just a wave of sound chakra lol. Questions?

( Ototon: Jakkuhanma ) - Sound Release: Jackhammer

Description: The user charges Ototon chakra into their feet as they run, releasing it as each foot hits the earth and makes sound. As each steps sound off, low frequency waves are released, each wave causing an immense vibration to propagate through the ground and into any enemy, making their bodies lose balance as the waves collide with the target repeatedly. As the waves continue to hit the target, the vibrations increase and cause internal pain, almost as if each wave is drilling into the target's body, causing the target to also become nauseous from the continuous waves. Despite its danger, the technique can easily be defended by simply severing ones contact with the ground.


Okay, this one, analyze it for me in great detail and tell me its pros and cons :)

So why would you use the weaker version of Echo Assault? I get that it may be more focused, but you can just direct it with your mouth, right? I guess you could do it to conserve chakra, etc. Still, it's a great technique z.z

Then... another shockwave-style sound clap? Easy; no questions.

Oh. Wow... this last jutsu doe. You basically have the same principle as Word Shaking, but with acoustic damage. I love how it resonates with every step you take! Obviously, you would have to either create your own terrain or footing or levitate yourself (Onoki flight gg).

Some questions for the last technique: is it a "mode"? Can I maintain it while performing other techniques? It also reaches up to long range with the user as the center, right?
