*Gaara greets Sensei upon his arrival and begins to answer Sensei's questions.*

My name is Gaara and Im from Sunagakure. My father was the fourth Kazekage. Wind is my first natural elemental affinity like most Suna Shinobi have. However I have a close relation to Sand release. Whenever Im in harms way, I am shielded by Sand automatically. This has earned me the name "Gaara of the Sand." From what I have learnt, I have this sand shield because of my mother. My dying mother did something because of which I have this Sand Shield. Its her love and sacrifice that is my shield. I want to master Sand release so that I can make the best use of my mother's gift.

How do you obtain the sand that you use? It simply appears in the air or what? :coffee:

Yes it does appear on its own. Once I was attacked from behind and it protected me.

Seems like it appears in the air because they are in Suna, which has sand basically everywhere in the environment. If I place you into a metal box, where do you get your sand from?

Yes. I get it now. The Sand will appear if it's in the surrounding environment or if I carry it myself. Like the way I carry it in my gourd on my back. That's the answer to the previous question. And to this one, No it won't appear inside the metal box unless I have my sand gourd with me.

Alright, good. xD So yes, there are actually three ways to acquire sand. The first, and easiest, is to utilize the sand in your gourd. It's the fastest method and can be used the easiest, although you cannot use that sand (generally) for large-scale techniques because there is simply not enough of it.

The second is to use sand that is in your environment, like if you are in a desert or on a beach. Best for large scale attacks or attacks that can originate under your opponent.

The last is to create sand from dirt by grinding the earth particles together. You can use this method for large scale attacks, but you need a bit of time to prepare the sand beforehand. This also usually costs extra chakra.

Questions? o-o

Understood everything else except the bold part. What does it mean?

EDIT - Is it similar to the those attacks where the ground below the opponent is manipulated?

Yes. Because you have sand already underneath your target, you can attack him directly with that sand instead of having to send the sand towards him.

The 5 Basic Elements are Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Lightning.

Sands relation to -

Earth - Sand is strong against earth. Sand techs have the capability to break down hardest of the rocks.

Fire - Sand is strong against fire. Sand attacks can be used in combo with Fire. The hot sand will even cause burns to the opponents.

Wind - I think wind should be neutral to Sand and Wind is probably the best to use in a combo with Sand. Sandstorms can be very useful to slow down enemies.

Water - Sand is weak against Water. It is very difficult to manipulate Sand soaked in water.

Lightning - Sand is weak against Lightning. Attacks like Chidori can pierce through Sand.
