Hey guys :hi:

So my father went to some dodgy internet cafe to print stuff and put his flash drive in my lap top. Now there's some kind of virus that converts every file from a USB device to shortcuts and makes them unreadable.

I've tried a delete shortcuts thing as well as anti-virus programs but it didn't help. Is there anything else I can do please :hint:

Thanks!

Hello,

If you did not format your flash drive, then check whether the files are not in

hidden mode. Follow the following steps.

Step 1:

Click on the below link and download the file "AutorunExterminator"

Extract it --> Double-click on "AutorunExterminator" --> Plug your flash drive now.

This will remove the autorun.inf files from your flash drive and also from drives.

Step 2:

Click on "Start" -->Run --> type cmd and click on OK.

Here I assume your flash drive letter as G:

Enter this command.

attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*

You can copy the above command --> Right-click in the Command Prompt and

paste it.

Note : Don't forget to replace the letter g with your flash drive letter.

Now press "Enter".

Now check for your files in Flash Drive.

Step 3:

After that, download the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from the below link

Update it --> Perform "Full Scan"

Note : Default selected option is "Quick Scan".

Good Luck.

edit: it's better if you install "USB Disk Security" software too.. :)

I tried the 2nd step but it lasts for a few seconds before the virus affects it again. But I'll try that anti-malware thing and see if it works. Thanks.

Alright I know a lnk. extension fix. What OS is your computer running on? Windows 7? XP?

If you have Windows XP, then download this file and open it .
It instantly gets rid of the the .lnk extensions.

If you have Windows 7/vista, then download this one:

The pendrive shortcut virus, it's really a hassle to get rid off, u can use system restore, and run a full scan using a certified anti virus, usually even with that it doesn't get the job done, I had to reinstall my OS to get rid of it.
