Every shinobi has yin (spiritual) and yang (physical) energies.
Together they form chakra.
Some have stronger yin energies (like for example Uchiha) others stronger yang energies (like Senju).
Having control over yin and/or yang, as in yin or yang relase is something else than having yin and yang in you.
Being able to combine yin and yang release into yinyang release is on a whole new lvl (Like Hagoromo can).
Thats how I understood it.
Madara read on the tablet that everything in the universe (maybe even the universe itself) is made of those 2 opposing forces.
Here are 2 traductions , that seem to imply that the universe comes from the Yin/Yang 1st differenciation:

That could just be a trap from Black Zetsu , knowing that Madara will look for ultimate god powers , he will unseal Kaguya from the moon without knowing it.
That could be truth , A god (in his dimension of gods , can his name be Uzumaki?) was instable (he was looking for stability , he must be instable) and divided into Yin and Yang , that created everything in nature (that created everything in the dimension where Madara and Hashirama live , that created a dimension full of life).
Isn't that what Kaguya tried to do with her huge Gudoudama?
Isn't that what Kaguya already has tried to do 5 times , and failed 5 times? She created at least 5 dimensions , there is no life in any of those dimensions.
Al that to say that you're right that Kushina is made of both Yin and Yang , like everybody and everything , so it's logical to think that the symbol in the databook means "control over the release".
It could have been "affinity with the element" , but we know that Naruto has an affinity with the wind element and control over all basic elements , the fact that all the basic elements are highlighted in Naruto's page in the databook , should mean that it's "control over the release of the element at the present day of chapter 691".
