Well I get what you mean for sure, but I just assumed so he could better protect the children due to BSM'S ever so versatile Chakra arms. But KCM should've been enough, BSM is definitely too much. Since he doesn't have all the tailed beast inside him he can't access RSM at that moment so BSM is his highest state. Plus Naruto is incredibly fast on his own maybe a bit of Kurama chakra if Kurama wanted, sure a bit of chakra but that's a heck-of-a-lot of it for just letting loose a "littlle bit" against a kid. Naruto wasn't in the state for long so being exhausted wouldn't be a variable.

I guess people are just comparing it to Sasuke when he didn't even need 3 tomoe to take on Shin. But the argument doesn't work backwards as Sasuke can just use Susano and not really rinnegan. Naruto just wanted to protect the kids in my opnion anyway.
