I also feel that fighting pain would have been difficult for anyone in the manga coz of the mystery surrounding him..be it Kages, Itachi or Sasuke (since the real one wont die).

And yes, the edo tensei did not do any justice to some of the great ninjas.

And i sometimes feel that the power balance in Naruto world is too much concentrated on Konoha while villages like the Sand village are nothing more than a joke.

Yeah sand is weakest country only Gaara seems to be powerful enough to compete against kage level ninja.
