Im gonna be honest, you dont really need to know much about GoT to play. Obviously it helps just for the references and the style and universe lore. HOWEVER, the system is pretty flexable and well made that you could substitute any fantasy universe into it and it would work just as well.
Id reccomend reading the intro player guide just to get an understanding if its for you or not.

I have been needing to look into that. Il be honest though, ive never watched GoT but love DnD.

Like Zat said, you dont really need a deep understanding of it. Its mostly a strategy and political game where you can Scheme against others, fight, ally with others, build structures and armies and more as you build your House up. Its a mix of DND inspired mechanics with RTS/grand stretgy games mixed in.

A large portion of it revolves around reading and with NBers favorite past time being to not read, I expect it to stay mostly a smaller game.
