Depends on what is going to benefit you the most I guess.

Do you really need Sage Rank? The bought version doesn't really net you the best benefits.

Legendary contracts are good but have a few restrictions so its best to make sure you are ok with them first.

Yang release would be an instant boost to your tai bios, custom options open further etc

if you got a good idea for a sage clan, you can get that. You can make some pretty amazing stuff.
Though I would say getting Yang and Yin are pretty essential to progression

Technically I think atm, the old Akatsuki weapons are no longer valid? so is that one less death?

Not sure what the plan is for them. When I asked last time they were still valid, but not sure now in L’s/LA’s ninja world.

They are still valid as of this moment, we just have to...readjust there's existence in the new storylines to come. The one's who aren't actively using them at all, well, not sure about them. So you're fine in the meantime.

my bio is kinda unique in the fact that the more health I lose the stronger I get. If my HP drops to zero I can kinda ‘resurrect’ twice. Once through a seal and once through my relic weapon.

additionally, if my HP drops to like 25% without me dying I have a mode that auto-activates that heals me and increases my damage for a number of turns

They can, unless its changed.

If you have an idea for one then ye its not a bad option. But you don't gain a sage weapon.

It entirely depends on you're intent. Sage Rank is more or less if you have a clear custom clan idea in mind and want to create, it comes with a bit more custom slots, increased base HP and Chakra, and the additional cycle slot for subbing customs. If you don't care about the differences, which isn't *much*; go for it.

Legendary Contracts are very nice if you manage to put them together well enough. You can even take it a step down into Mythicals, but those have to be based on an actual mythological creature where as Legendaries can be anything (within reason). My Thunderbirds for example when I took over the CSC, I resubbed them to have a pseudo element called Electro, which is more or less chakraless electric that cant be sealed or absorbed as they are chakraless. It's a pretty nice thing, so def would have quite a lot of room to play with.

Yang Release is also not a bad option, it has a lot of applications you can utilize in customs and battle, geared towards heal, vitality augmentation and even mutagenic manipulation. Its really up to you what you aim to achieve.

Yang no debate. Its a foundational ability as is Yin. Anything besides that is extra.
