The five element seal is for extra protection. This way the seal can't be activated by elemental chakra as well as the evil, dark chakra contained inside the seal.

This way, the yin chakra (the bad chakra, which is what the curse mark IS) is sealed away, and there's good chakra (yang chakra) protecting it.
