deidara wasn't drafted in the akatsuki because he was stupid and had nothing, they acknowledge that his ability would be of good use to the organization, which it was, for he defeated both gara and sanbi thus obtaining not one but two biju's for the organization.

the saskue vs deidara fight only made him bad because he was strict earth user and saskue used raiton thus he had a bad match up.

deidara was pure epicness and konan would fail miserable trying to kill him.
