Yes he was forced to used Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu so that took a huge toll on him. And Kakashi, Asuma, Kurenai and Guy aren't as much as a threat to Itachi and Kisame as Jiraiya is so of course he wouldn't run from the 4 of them. Yeah you're right about the Sasuke thing, I haven't thought about that.

'Cause Itachi > Naruto, anyday.

Although, I do believe he said that because his mission was not to engage in battle, but to take possession of Naruto (secretly warn Danzo, to protect his little brother).
