Chikara has the runtime, direction, animation and canon gap-bridging relevance for a feature release.
What else came out in 2012? Road To Ninja.
A movie idea clearly pushed by Kishimoto. Interestingly, Road to Ninja has very average TV animation and was clearly given to the usual Perriot animators, hence the movie prelude episode they released in the anime. Even the movie poster is a manga illustration- hiding the fact their animation was for the most part poor.
The two were clearly swapped at a very late stage and the Chikara Arc MUST have been a movie production, unfairly redistributed onto TV. IMO RtN is an unfunny gimmick comedy with a bizarrely fan-fic parallel world concept to stand on whilst Chikara could very easily blend into the events of the manga, resolving interesting dynamics and preluding the War arc. Which one do you prefer?
