CFS Idea

Warden (working title)

Mechanic Concept: Juggles two resources to move between stances. Moonsparks stack up to 5 by using regular (non-CFS) Kenjutsu. Moonsparks can be expended to use certain CFS techniques.

Sunsparks will be stacked upon using certain techniques that take Moonsparks to cast; stacks up to 3. Certain techniques may need and consume a Sunspark to use. Stacking 3 Sunsparks allows one to enter Sentry Stance. Sentry stance will either have its own moves within the CFS that do more damage/have stronger effects than typical, or will act as a super mode of sorts.

Ideas:

Moonsparks grant +3 Damage to Kenjutsu techniques per Moonspark. Perhaps this stacks even through other buffs?
Techniques that consume Moon or Sun Sparks require no chakra, as they consume the stacked sparks.
Sunsparks will grant buffs as they build up? Or, conversely, they dont as they are the actual primary resource of the CFS.
Sentry Stance techniques will either require 0 Sun/Moon Sparks to use, or the act of going into Sentry Stance will "lock" the Sun/Moon spark count for the duration of Sentry Stance.

Alternatively: Going into Sentry stance consumes ALL Sun Sparks and any remaining Moonsparks, and instead grants Eclipsed Anima equal to one per Sunspark and 1/3/5 based on Moonspark total. Sentry Stance techniques consume Eclipsed Anima to use, but Moon/Sunsparks can't be built back up while in Sentry Stance.

Sentry Stance Mods (while active?):
1.) Movement speed is halved; tracking speed is unchanged.
2.) Brightwing activates upon entering Sentry Stance. Blades of Light twirl around the user causing anyone within 5m to drop to their base speed/take 1 (10?) damage per speed level above their base while in the aura.

Alternatively:
1.) All Kenjutsu/Warden techniques become Long Ranged if they are not.
2.) All Kenjutsu/Warden techniques are treated as if they have elemental superiority.

Technique Ideas
Epicenter: Zero Chakra move. A rank? Short range physical strike with enough force to shatter stone. Stacks 1/3/5 Moonsparks. On a cooldown based upon what the amount of Moonsparks granted is.

Sonic Strike: Consumes 1 Moonspark to use. "Shockwave" technique that consumes no chakra, similar to EIG airburst.

Sever: Grants a Sunspark. Uses a Moonspark? Powerful strike technique; no chakra, strikes in short range physically but launches a blunt airwave up to mid-range away. Multiple moonsparks can be consumed in the same casting to grant additional Sunsparks?

Sword Salvo: Sentry Stance's version of Sonic Strike. A glimmering blade of light is launched forward. A rank higher than Sonic Strike, perhaps, or benefits from buffs from Moon/Sun sparks or sentry stance's buffs?

Divine Strike: A powerful blow (Susanno-esc) where the wielder's blade is cloaked in energy and then brought down in a powerful strike. Only usable in Sentry Stance. Forbidden rank?

Sunsparks could grant +5 damage while stacked so that having 5 Moonsparks and 3 Sunsparks grants +30 to Kenjutsu, but they are consumed upon entering Sentry Stance; or, they could remain until Sentry Stance's duration is ended, in which case both sparks return to zero stacks.

Should there be something that helps Moon/Sun spark techniques stand apart from each other thematically? Chakra Cost, elements, etc?

34/35 Customs
  1. Submit Heavy Artillery Exploding Tags as Ninja Tech to free up a CJ slot.
  2. Add Komainu summon to place holder post, or to same post as Columbidae summon.
    1. Add Taiju to Komainu accounting
  3. Check on status of Elemental Samurai Sabre Skill’s donation request, to potentially free up a custom slot
  4. Look into the Custom Summoning Contracts jutsu submission, since they don’t take up any of the 35 slots? Need to confirm.

Need to research bio specialties, and how “bonus” specialties work. Does the +Speed Spec from samurai no longer take up a spec slot? If not, what would I replace it with?

If keep personal summon spec, perhaps need to update Agrias, as well as other Columbidae. Does the entire contract need a revamp? Otherwise, Komainu are already usable on Samurai, which frees up another specialty slot.

Dokkodo is also useable along EIG, minus the mode itself and Blinding Light.

Evaluate LCA, and the fact it takes 6 turns for Excalibur to be usable. Can the LCA be used out of combat in the NW, making Excalibur feasible in that setting?

Basic Information

Name: Keotsu Akarusa
Nickname:
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Clan: -

Appearance: Keotsu is a well-built individual in his mid-to-late twenties; muscular, as befitting one who has been a martial arts practioner for most his life. Standing just under six foot tall and weighing in at about 170lbs. Keotsu has green, jade colored eyes and extremely long, straight brown hair that reaches down almost to his waist when left to fall.

Keotsu dresses simply, in a military style suit most commonly seen amongst higher-ranking Samurai when they find themselves in more urban settings, consisting of well-fitting slacks and a shirt jacket with a simple adornment of brass-colored buttons; he also wears a haori overtop of this apparel.

Keotsu's Samurai armor is mostly comprised of banded plates, bound together with silken cord. Though not particularly ornate, it is highly functional.

Despite the obvious military applications of his garb, he seems to emit an aura of kindness.
Personality: A kind and compassionate soul tempered by the harshness of reality, Keotsu is regarded as direct and empathetic, with a strong desire to assist those in need, though a dose of pragmatism has tempered that desire with logic, with age. Though educated and increasingly observant, his usually trusting nature can see him taken advantage of and placed in unfavorable situations, and while he does not actively seek to do so, appears to be charismatic and a capable leader.

Village Info

Land of Birth: Hachiman’s Bulwark
WSE Clan: -

Rank//Chakra Info

Samurai Rank: Jonin
Specialty:

Personal Summoning Specialist: The first of Eden's Chosen, Keotsu was the first to recieve access to the Columbidae Contract, even as a Samurai. The Columbidae Contract's Guardian, Agrias Oaks, accompanies Keotsu at basically all times.

(Hato-ka Kuchiyose:Aguriasu Ōkusu) Columbidae Summon: Agrias Oaks
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Type: Summon
Chakra Cost: 40
Damage: N/A
Description: Agrias is the guardian of the Columbidae Contarct. In her dove form, she appears as a regular size dove with yellow plumage. Her only ability in this form is that she can be summoned through use of a piece of special reed grass that grows only in Eden, the realm where the Columbidae reside – using this grass allows her to be summoned at a regular chakra cost, but bypasses summoning ninjutsu, by using chakra to activate the glyphs found inscribed upon the wheat when a tune is blown on it; in essence, Agrias is summoning herself to the Summoner, but using their chakra for the job. As a Human, Agrias is a stunning young woman of 20 years old with long, golden hair that comes down to her hips and amber eyes; she keeps her hair tied back in one large braid, though. She wears a navy trench cloak and a pair of leather breaches, boots, and gauntlets, as well as wearing a steel breastplate, and her personal sword, Save the Queen; she also speaks with a slightly Old-English dialect. In human form, she is capable of using any Kenjutsu and Taijutsu that the summoner can use. As a human, she also gains access to a personal Kenjutsu technique known as “Divine Ruination”, an S-rank technique that fires a helix-shaped shockwave at the enemy (described below).
*Save the Queen can only wielded by Agrias and Columbidae Contract signers; the sword itself is indestructible, but has no special powers.
*Though Agrias has her own Health and Chakra pools, her moves still count towards the summoner’s 3 moves per turn.
*Divine Ruination is a double helix (DNA) shaped, blue shockwave that causes a cross-shaped explosion to occur on impact. When used by Agrias, it is treated as a justu with S-rank power and chakra cost. It reaches up to Mid-range before disappearing and can only be used 3 times.
*Transforming to/from Avian/Human form costs 30 chakra to Agrias and counts as a move and she is always summoned in Avian form.
*Can only be summoned once and lasts for 4 turns.
*Agrias in Human form:

Increased Tracking Specialist: Years of discipline and rigorous training have left Keotsu with incredible reaction speeds, such that he routinely uses falling water droplets to practice his Iaido. (Reaction Speed x2)

Increased Speed Specialist: Years of strenuous physical training have left Keotsu incredibly physically capable, and part of controlling a battle is being able to maneuver around the battlefield. Keotsu is notable for his remarkable speed. (+3 Speed)

Eight Inner Gates Master: A discipline fighter who constantly seeks to improve himself, Keotsu is one of a handful of Samurai with access to the Eight Inner Gates. This allows him to add its power to his freeform strikes while utilizing them.

ZX Buster Specialty: Keotsu created a new style of Taijutsu in his trainings, based around combining the aspects of Hard and Gentle Fist Taijutsu; this grants Keotsu x2 Damage to his Taijutsu, as well as meaning he does not require specialized gloves to utilize the custom fighting style.

Background Info

History: Pen left page and with a resounding thud a heavy tome closed for the final time. The author took a moment to reflect upon his work, placing the leather-bound book onto a shelf, filled with many others. Yet another story came to an end, but these characters played on myriad stages, and many more tales were yet to be revealed.

Pen met page, fresh and hungering for ink, as a new tome was opened before the author. In another time and place, this swordsman had another tale to be told, it seemed…

Keotsu was born in 786 to middle class parents on the Iron Peninsula, within the greatest city known to the Samurai, Hachiman’s Bulwark. His mother was a scholar and his father an apothecary, and as such enjoyed a mostly untroubled childhood. He received a fine education and, as is customary for many families, attended an academy that also prepared its students for potential service in a military setting, something Keotsu seemed to have an almost innate talent for. Amongst his peers he was nearly unrivaled when it came to skill with a blade, and he was able to quickly absorb many of the other teachings presented to them: chakra theory, mathematics, physical sciences, and the like.

Due to the nature of his parent’s careers, Keotsu was largely unaffected by the political squabbles, as they were far beyond the scope of their day to day lives. Despite his potential military prowess, but the time he was 17, in the year 803, he had decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and was studying to become an apothecary. However, a great sickness swept through Hachiman’s Bulwark, an illness that would ultimately claim the life of Keotsu’s mother, despite the efforts of her son and husband. Several people died from what would later be discovered to be a dangerous pathogen inadvertently released into the primary water source for the city. Keotsu’s father, as did many other healers, helped save a great many lives through their medicines, but not all could be saved. Keotsu would lose his father to the rage of a grief-stricken widower, who was convinced that Keotsu’s father had sold him bad medicine. In a conflict, he slew Keotsu’s father with a blade – Keotsu, in a rage, slew the man in kind. Despite the grisliness of the incident, there was a large degree of understanding in the community, and there was no ostracizing of Keotsu.

Despite this, Keotsu found himself suddenly without the support of his family, and grief stricken. He needed a way to support himself, and lacked the funds to try and become an apprentice under another apothecary, much less procure and maintain his own shop.

Tightly budgeting what inheritance he had from his parents, Keotsu began acting as a sell-sword, knowing the need for capable fighters was high even in the far north, and his level of skill saw no shortage of covet.

Over the next few years Keotsu would build a reputation as a reliable mercenary for higher, though he was mostly employed alongside local governments just for assistance.

Now, in the current year, Keotsu is 27 years of age and has a reputation as a renowned swordsman, and after collecting a sizeable savings, has contemplated taking on the life of a traveling adventurer. However, he usually sticks to the capital city of the Samurai, and frequently works alongside him, his disposition and skill being too agreeable to be discarded.

Other
Mythos, the Blade of Heaven: A legendary blade that seems impervious to effects beyond the will of its wielder, Keotsu carries this weapon with him at essentially all times.

Infinite One-Sword Style: Having pioneered a unique style of Kenjutsu, Keotsu tends to carry uniquely bound cases of katana in order to use this style; some are simply bound bundles of swords, while others are mechanized cases needed to utilize the “Vector” technique.

Heavy Artillery Exploding Tags: A hallmark of Keotsu, he makes liberal use of a special variant of exploding tag commonly employed by Shinobi for situations were close-quarters combat is not always viable. He uses these alongside throwing knives, a trick he has learned through experience.
(Jūhō Kibaku Fuda) Heavy Artillery Exploding Tag
Rank: N/A
Type: Offensive
Range: N/A
Chakra: N/A
Damage: +20 to Explosive Tags
Description: A heavy-duty version of the standard issue paper bomb, this exploding tag has substantially more power than a regular exploding tag, and is generally used in heavy demolition. Other than being .5 inches longer than a regular exploding tag and with the kanji for “erupt” instead of “explode” in the middle, they cannot be discerned from their weaker counterparts at a glance. These exploding tags can be used in place of weaker ones in jutsu involving them.
*In order to use these, it must be mentioned in the user’s bio that they carry this version of the exploding tag – otherwise, the user cannot use these.

Samurai Armament: Keotsu owns a set of armor in similar style to his regular garb that is outfitted with traditional Samurai modifications, including a helmet that has a built into gas-mask to help filter poison, though it sees little use in this day and age. Like his usual attire, the boots are augmented in such a way to make the use of ZX Buster possible.

Leg Weights: As a method of constant training, Keotsu has a weighted attachment applied to his grieves, that can be easily removed in the need arises.

    • Spiritual Kenjutsu
    • Dokkodo
    • Physical Kenjutsu and Taijutsu that have no chakra cost and do strictly physical damage
    • Custom Weapon (Nagareboshi)

Scientific Ninja Tool concept:

Ore: Tentamahagane (Heavenly Jewel Steel). Iron from a meteorite? Potential abilities: items made of it increase base damage by 5, not a boost? Use an action to “sharpen/etch” a weapon with a piece of the ore doubling boosts on the next technique uses with the weapon? Something akin to nichirin swords from Demon Slayer? Maybe they instantly banish summons or constructs, or cause them to instantly fail? This feels too easily accomplished with Dokkodo and Spiritual Kenjutsu, though.

Ideal this SNT would be used in the construction of the CW Nagareboshi, but what effects could an ore as a SNT offer that wouldn’t already be achievable through an actual CW submission?

On that note, what is the goal with Nagareboshi? Copying Mythos’s energy negation ability is my first thought, but could be disallowed; either because I’m copying another CW, even if it’s just my own on my main account, or for being too powerful in general. I could give it unique moves that it can preform, but isn’t that just tacking additional CJ slots onto the CW? That seems...odd. It should probably do something to augment Dokkodo and Spiritual Ken, as that’s likely to be my primary focus. Just a simple damage boost, while effective, isn’t anything noteworthy. Perhaps the sword provides a boost equal to the current largest boost active? So +40 from Dokkodo, for example, would result in +80 total, as Nagareboshi would take on that same boost? The ability could be called Wish.

Perhaps it lowers the cooldown of moves, or grants additional usages?

Stillness of the Mind - Spiritual Ken(?) technique that uses a spiritual blade to cleanse Yin effects and Genjutsu. Probably only single use.

Harakiri - Some sort of technique that invokes seppuku. Would drop HP to 1, and increase the amount of damage done by techniques equal to the amount of health lost. Perhaps it applies only to the next technique, or in a three turn duration.

Cosmos Breathing, Star Breathing, Void Breathing, World Breathing, Aether Breathing, Storm Breathing? Void and Aether Breathing sound the most coherent, especially compared to other Demon Slayer styles, but void is an actual thing in the NW and might not be the best idea. If we equate void = 0, then Aether = infinity, which would be a neat concept.

What is the new characters theme and appearance? Do I use Katsura again? Do I want to do a “heavenly” theme again? Could always use Sasaki Kojiro as the character instead of Katsura.

Evaluation of the different build components.

Ronin:
  • x2 Tracking due to Spirit Sensing, which also allows the ability to sense spiritual techniques, or techniques that would likely otherwise be invisible. This helps reduce the likelihood of speed blitzing, due to enhanced tracking.
  • Spiritual Kenjutsu inflicts spiritual damage. The spiritual damage chart in the Health System thread shows that the Spiritual damage aspect has minimal benefit to the Ronin themselves. The different damage breakpoints usually only provide extra chakra cost to cast Gen or Yin, and makes more chakra required to break out of Gen. The ability to completely prevent F rank usage at 60% is useful, as is the tracking reduction at 80%.
  • 25 less damage from spiritual techniques is a hardy defense, moreso if Genjutsu is included in this reduction.
  • Ronin Iaido is hard to evaluate, but seems less useful on the surface than Samurai Iaido.
    • Ronin Iaido does no damage, for one, and it’s effects don’t prevent the usage of techniques (interruption). It prevents certain types of techniques from being used, but mostly only for the next turn, and only if the spiritual Kenjutsu attack hits.
  • Spiritual Kenjutsu’s SamuraI Sabre equivalent has Shinigami like effects, which is pretty damn cool, and powerful if it hits. This particular aspect combos incredibly well with Dokkodo.
  • They essentially get a Susanoo variant.
  • They get access to Yin release techniques, though my understanding of how this can be applied is limited; most Yin seems to affect sealing and Genjutsu, meaning any applications in this area would come from customs, and likely on a trial and error basis.
  • The Bio Specialties Yin Expert doesn’t mesh with Ronin nearly as well as Yang Expert does with Samurai. Most of the abilities provided by Yin expert can be gained by activating Unfettered Mind, which a Ronin really wants active as much as possible.
    • The ability to siphon 30 chakra per turn from the opponent has massive applications, though, depending on how this functions and how many people this can effect at one time. Combined with Kuebiko, Spiritual Kenjutsu may end up having a net zero chakra cost to the Ronin, while helping to rapidly burn through opposing combatants chakra reserves. The spiritual shaving from Kuebiko could be nice, but Dokkodo reduces shaving already. Otherwise, especially due to the per turn cost and recoil damage, Kuebiko seems underwhelming at first glance.
  • Another large point is that Unfettered Mind grants +40 to Spiritual Ken, which, as of writing this segment, is the largest strict Kenjutsu boost I am aware of.
Samurai:

  • Samurai have a MUCH larger pool of techniques to pull from.
    • Their Iaido is strictly superior at first glance, and they have several techniques that have Iaido like effects.
    • Unlike Ronin, Samurai can use elemental Kenjutsu.
    • Several of the defenses granted by Ronin can be emulated through the effects of Bushido or Warrior’s Soul.
    • This is compounded by Samurai having an innate +20 to Kenjutsu.
      • Samurai as a whole gain far more benefits than Ronin. Ronin do not revived an equivalent boost to Spiritual Ken that Samurai get for Ken, and while Ronin get a x2 tracking increase, Samurai get a +3 to their base speed. While Ronin just get to have their damage resistance to spiritual techniques innately, Samurai get immunity to gas based poison, and a physical damage reduction the same magnitude as Ronin’s spiritual damage reduction by wearing their armor, though this does take a SNT slot.
  • Samurai have access to Yang. While my knowledge of what can be accomplished with Yang techniques is limited, the Yang speciality meshes VERY well with Samurai. The 30 damage reduction from physical damage essentially grants them the benefit of their armor without wearing it, the 1000 chakra is ALWAYS helpful, and the recoil damage negation is situationally powerful. Though more research is needed, since EIG can also be used on a Samurai, they could potentially negate most or all of its drawbacks, especially with the technique Touch of the Sun (citation needed).
  • Bushido grants a smaller damage increase than Unfettered Mind, but applies to both Ken and Tai, not just Spiritual ken. Additionally, it reduces energy damage by 30 and physical damage by 40, rather than ONLY Spiritual Damage by 50. It also grants A rank immunity to Genjutsu, which while not as powerful as what Ronin have, is still respectable, especially when you consider that Samurai have access to Warrior’s Soul and Ronin do not.
  • Samurai are, however, more vulnerable to spiritual techniques than Ronin are, as they don’t really have a way to detect them, and the also lack a sensing ability like Ronin have.
Dokkodo to receive its own post.

Dokkodō

  • Dokkodo techniques are useable by both Samurai and Ronin without actually requiring it be their mode, though this prevents them from fully utilizing it.
    • Without the Mode, there is no access to Blinding Blade. This technique effectively works as a combination of Sogenmu and the IOSS. Additionally, it blinds most combatants through their traditional senses and chakra sensing, and creates a box which prevents retreat beyond short range, forcing the opponent into a combat range the Samurai or Ronin likely has the advantage at. There is no active downside to this technique beyond the upkeep cost, and can be kept active a total of 12 turns. While VERY powerful, I don’t feel that not having it massively gimps a Samurai or Ronin who decides to not take Dokkodo as their mode.
    • The Dokkodo mode itself grants +30 to Kenjutsu and +40 Taijutsu. This is interesting, as these are effectively the same boosts as Bushido, meaning it’s not a massive increase for Samurai; as Ronin lack a traditional Kenjutsu boost, it is more useful for them. One of the biggest draws of this is the shaving reduction. In prolonged fights this reduces the ability of more powerful opponents to shrug off damage, and since it actually prevents healing, is particularly nasty with Ronin who can prevent usage of entire limbs with a single spiritual blow. The shaving reduction‘s usefulness is somewhat in question though; you need to land a hit to reduce shaving, and if that happens the target is on a 3 turn (or two turn depending on the variant Dokkodo speciality being taken) Timer where they will be petrified and essentially auto-lose anyway.
      • Outside of Blinding Blade and this mode itself, Samurai and Ronin can use basically all Dokkodo techniques without taking the mode as their Mode. HOWEVER, the Dokkodo mode technique mentions that a Samurai or Ronin using it sees a 10 damage increase in their technique versus Shinobi. If this is considered a strict increase in base damage and not a boost (or is reflected by the boosts from Dokkodo increasing in magnitude by 10 for these characters), that’s is FAIRLY substantial.
  • The recoil on Dokkodo is negligible. Torso damage recoil only affects chakra kneaded in the stomach and exhaled, which is almost completely Ninjutsu, which Samurai and Ronin don’t have access too. The largest issue would be the 100% penalty forcing an auto loss.
    • Samurai can potentially completely circumvent this with Yang Expert.
    • The Dokkodo speciality can also reduce the recoil by 10%, or make the petrificatuon accelerate to 2 turns instead of 3.
  • Dokkodo techniques basically have a miniature First Prayer Command Art ability built in where they can neutralize a technique by “shattering” it. This is a major plus due the nature of some techniques.

  • Overall, Dokkodo is well worth investing in as a Samurai or Ronin due to all the power it grants. However, taking it as your mode is less straightforward. Ronin want it more than Samurai, as it helps shore up their lack of boosts to Kenjutsu, and on and individual level how much they value Blinding Blade. Additionally, if the Dokkodo mode is considered as a base damage increase and not a boost, it becomes highly appealing even for Samurai, who can then augment their Dokkodo with their passive +30 (Dokkodo Mode) and +30 from Bushido for a total +70, which is very respectable.
Ammendum: Does a Taijutsu boost increase Kenjutsu damage? If so, does the +40 Tai overwrite the +30 Ken, resulting in +40 Ken?

(Nagareboshi) Shooting Star
Rank: N/A
Type: Weapon
Chakra Cost: N/A
Damage: +25 to Kenjutsu, Spiritual Kenjutsu, and Dokkodo techniques and freeform; see description.
Description: Nagareboshi is a beautiful katana with a black blade, polished to a mirror finish; the surface of the sword glimmers and glints, like the night-sky. The hamon is of the suguha type, and the blade's edge is a brilliant silver in color. Forged from a meteorite that landed on the top of the tallest mountain in the land, and thus was exposed to the purest rays of sunlight, Nagareboshi is a blade forged with the energies of the both the heavens and the earth. The big dipper can be clearly seen on the rainguard, near the cross-guard. The sword has seven unique properties, benefited to it by the seven stars of the constellation.

(Negai) Wish - Nagarebosh‘s excellent craftsmanship and unique composition empowers Kenjutsu, Spiritual Kenjutsu, and Dokkodo techniques and freeform used through the blade. It provides a +25 damage increase for offensive techniques, or equivalent boost in efficacy for techniques that are not offensive. However, the boost provided by Nagareboshi will change in magnitude to match any boost of a higher magnitude that affects any of the categories Nagareboshi affects. For example, the Ronin technique Unfettered Mind provides +40 damage to Spiritual Kenjutsu. Nagareboshi’s +25 damage will increase to +40, but continue to apply to Kenjutsu, Spiritual Kenjutsu, and Dokkodo techniques and freeform.

(Ryūsei) Falling Star - A silvery orb manifests at the tip of Nagareboshi and can be lobbed away by swinging the blade, where it streaks through the air like a comet. The technique has enough power to shatter stone and interact neutrally with techniques, dispelling and dispersing techniques it interacts with, as it is a combination Spiritual KenJutsu and Dokkodo technique. Falling Star can be used once per turn, and is treated as having 60 damage and 30 chakra cost base, and has a range of Short-Mid, and takes a moveslot.

(Hi) Day - Kenjutsu and Spiritual Kenjutsu techniques and freeform have the properties of Dokkodo applied to them when used through Nagareboshi.

(Yoru) Night - Kenjutsu and Dokkodo techniques and freeform have the properties of Spiritual Kenjutsu applied to them when used through Nagareboshi.

(Tokui-ten) Singularity - Nagareboshi is essentially indestructible, only able to be destroyed when neither the heavens or earth can reach it. It cannot be sealed or destroyed unless it is in an area where it is shielded from starlight of any sort, and separated from the Natural Energy of the earth.

(Nisshoku) Eclipse - When a boosting technique is applied to a Kenjutsu, Spiritual Kenjutsu, or Dokkodo technique Nagareboshi can replace the boost affecting it and apply its own boost a second time.

(Ankoku busshitsu) Dark Matter - Kenjutsu, Spiritual Kenjutsu, and Dokkodo techniques used through Nagareboshi have higher efficiency, and can be cast with 10 less chakra with no effect on their efficacy.

Note: Nagareboshi can be wielded by anyone, however, the Spiritual KenJutsu related effects only activate when wielded by a Ronin. The Dokkodo related effects only activate when wielded by a Samurai or Ronin, or someone who has Dokkodo as their mode.

Critique so far:

Wish: The boost mimicking might not be possible at all, meaning the sword could only provide its innate boost. Additionally, CW may not be allowed to affect freeform damage at all?

>>Wish is the one ability that I feel is central to the sword. It may be worth trying to get the boost mimic approved, though maybe removing the freeform boost is the right way forward. While I’d like to try and do a freeform build, boosting its damage to the point it can be used to fight techniques, I suspect I’ll face major difficulties attempting to do so, and the powers on my main account will probably accomplish that goal better.

Falling Star: Seems fine and approvable.

>>Falling Star, while unique as a ”signature move” for the weapon, also least affects Nagareboshi with its removal. It could easily be made a stand alone technique.

Day and Night: Both of theses abilities seem fine independently, save the ability to affect freeform, as mentioned in Wish. Also, there is some doubts on having both active at the same time.

>>Day and Night simplify my build immensely if approved, but are not necessary. If ”The Way Forward” can be approved, it would accomplish the same or similar effects. I should draft up The Way Forward soon, so I can help plan it’s progression.

Singularity: Indestructible CW are apparently no longer allowed. Additionally, the sealing block seems suspect.

>>Unless I am mistaken, Natural Energy cannot be sealed, which is why I thought making the sword immune to being sealed was okay. The no indestructible CW part is a major drawback, and means I’ll need a way to “repair” the CW, especially since I don’t know how broken CW are treated in the NW. Do they recharge in a similar manner to techniques? My immediate idea for a repair is just a chakra cost to restore so much HP to it.

Eclipse: The opinion was that the ability was strange, but otherwise fine.

>>Eclipse is less useful if Wish doesn’t work like I’d like it to. Perhaps I could change it so that Nagareboshi’s boost applies twice unless there are higher boosts active to override it? This would still allow a large total boost from the sword itself, when modes like Dokkodo or Unfettered Mind are not active.

Dark Matter: Seems straight and simple in the current climate, and easily approvable.

>>No immediate ideas for improvement here, but I would be willing to sacrifice this for Wish. Alternatively, we focus on this direction and aim to reduce our chakra costs as much as possible while retaining efficacy. Need to research if “chakra reduction“ boosts are additive in their total application, or only take the highest value, etc.

( Fudōchi Shinmyōroku ) – The Unfettered Mind
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: Short
Chakra: 40 ( -10 per turn )
Damage: N/A ( +40 to Spiritual Kenjutsu )
Description: Considered by many to be the Rōnin’s ultimate technique, as well as their answer to the Samurai’s Bushidō. The Rōnin will release infuse their body and armor with their spiritual energy, granting them augmented abilities; it appears as an aura of purple energy. This infusion reduces the damage of all spiritual based attacks by 50. While active, the fortified spiritual energy prevents the Rōnin from falling under the influence of illusionary techniques, barring those augmented with Yin Release or cast by the Mangekyou Sharingan. The Rōnin’s Spiritual Kenjutsu are enhanced by 40 additional damage, and they become able to move three times faster than their base speed. Upon ending the Rōnin is unable to utilize Iaido, as well as use Spiritual Kenjutsu higher than A-Rank for a single turn. This technique lasts for 6 turns and can be used three times.
Note: Can only be used by Rōnin biographies.

Visual: Purple Aura

Effect: +40 Damage, Spiritual Defense, 3x speed.

( Dokkōdō ) - The Alone Way
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: Short
Chakra: 40 ( -10 per turn )
Damage: N/A ( +30/40 to Kenjutsu/Taijutsu )
Description: By taking a stance and channeling copious amounts of chakra while drawing in natural energy into their blade, the user enters a swordsmen state known as Dokkodo or the Alone Way. The chakra creates several markings across the user's lower jaw and neck, extending down both arms to fully cover the forearms and arms in scale-like platings as a chakra shroud that grants a large Vizard-like mask across their faces. The general appearance differs from user to user but these traits are shared. After activation, the user gains access to the exclusive art of Senjutsu utilized via Kenjutsu in two unique forms. The first form allows the user's techniques to carry the ability to cause a foe to become petrified 3 turns after being cut, the wound drawing in natural energy and prevents passive healing until healed by outside sources or the target is petrified, whichever comes sooner. The second form allows for techniques to carry the ability to corrode techniques and targets resistances, eating away at natural defenses when striking targets to weaken and prevent natural damage resistances. Should targets be hit by the corrosive Senkenjutsu, they will take the listed damage of the technique. In addition to this, when techniques land, the amount of chakra spent will be deducted from the object's damage resistance capabilities to cause it to plummet ( i.e. if an A rank Kenjutsu was used and lands and the target can shave 20 damage, 15 ( half of 30 chakra ) of it will be removed to leave 5 Damage Shaving ). Should their damage resistance drop to 0, it will remain there until being healed by outside sources.
Note: Can only be used 3 times each battle, each use lasting up to 8 turns. After ending, the user cannot use A rank and above physical techniques ( Tai/Ken, Jutsu with extended/detailed physical movements, etc ) for two turns and the effects of the 20% Torso Health drawbacks trigger. Each subsequent use adds 10% to the Torso Health drawbacks.
Note: Samurai and Ronin are capable of using Dokkodo techniques without entering the state though if they do, they experience a 10 damage increase compared to shinobi using the mode.

Visual: Vizard mask.

Effects: Petrification on hit, healing block, Senjutsu enable technique breaking, Shaving reduction.

Total Concentration Breathing, Constant - Delay damage by 1 turn and/or reduce “damage” (Torso, Arms, etc) by 10%. Increase to Speed and/or Tracking by 1 (base increase, not a ”boost”), 1 level of Speed Resistance, innate.

S rank, passive, no chakra cost.

>>The existence of the SHB causes immediate issue with “breathing” based physical buffs. Could make doing any of the Demon Slayer Breathing Techniques difficult.

(Kyokuchi) Furthest Earth - The ultimate stepping technique, which enables perfect, unhindered movement. An advancement on the tree climbing and water walking techniques, users of Kyokuchi can cross things like pools of lava unscathed, and can step on the air itself, due to the chakra concentrated at the soles of their feet.

A rank, passive, no chakra cost. Ninja tech?

( Dokkōdō: Shiraha Nagashi ) - The Alone Way: White Blade Flow
Type: Defensive
Rank: A - S
Range: Short
Chakra: 30 - 40
Damage: N/A
Description: After entering Dakkodo, the user aims at incoming targets and slashes at the target with a Senjutsu enhanced melee attack. When the sword makes contact with the target, the released chakra quickly corrodes through the obstacle, weakening by exposing the obstacle's "shatter point". This is a point on the technique that the Senjutsu compromises, causing it to shatter in a glow of white glass-like shards, lending to the technique's name. It is capable of destroying solids and liquids of equal chakra or lower while dispersing energy as well.
Note: Can only be used with Dakkodo active. Ronin and Samurai are capable of utilizing outside of the mode.

( Dokkōdō: Gatotsu ) - The Alone Way: Fang Point
Type: Offensive/Defensive/Supplementary
Rank: A - S
Range: Short - Long
Chakra: 30 - 40
Damage: 60 - 80
Description: The user gathers senjutsu around his sword, creating an extended aura around it that glows a cyan color as the scales around the user's arm extends to the blade. This gives it a harsher texture and weighs the blade, augmenting it with a unique effect. Due to the scales and Senjutsu empowering the blade, strikes that land cover a wider surface and applies the corrosive Senjutsu's effects, deteriorating anything it comes into contact with including sealing scripts and anything else that can interact with Senjutsu. This can even allow him to destroy advanced seals like the Flying Thunder God seal, the Shinigami, and others. In addition to this, should foes be struck with it then their damage resistance will drop by 15 or 20, depending on the rank of this technique used. They will also take damage appropriate to the rank used.
Note: Can only be used with Dakkodo active. Ronin and Samurai can only use if they have Dakkodo as their mode.

( Seishin Kenjutsu ) – Spiritual Sword Technique
Type: Offensive/Defensive/Supplementary
Rank: A - S
Range: Short
Chakra: 30 - 40
Damage: 60 - 80
Description: Seishin Kenjutsu is the unique form of Kenjutsu practiced by Rōnin. The technique itself, on its own, is directed at dealing damage to the spirit and soul of an opponent. When an enemy is struck by this technique the damage inflicted is akin to that of the Shinigami cutting off Orochimaru’s arms. The targeted limb becomes unusable due to the severing of their soul. However, unlike that of the Shinigami Reaper, this effect is not permanent and instead lasts up to 2 turns. Against techniques, the Rōnin will target the spiritual energy within the technique; striking it with the sword will disrupt this balance and, should the Rōnin’s Kenjutsu overpower or neutralize the targeted technique, will dissipate harmlessly. The S-Ranked version of this technique can only be used a total of six times per battle.
Note: Can only be used by Rōnin biographies.

The effects of these three techniques are the big focal points of Dokkodo and Spiritual Kenjutsu for me. White Blade Flow is reminiscent of the First Prayer on my main account, in which Kenjutsu can be used to dispel attacks they otherwise normally would not be able to. Luckily, it has no usage restriction, so it can be relied upon, but it is defensive, and not an attack.

Fang Point has the Seal destroying affect. This has some unique applications, but it is less useful on a general level. It also gives the damage shaving, which could be useful. Need to look into the viability of this technique being able to forcibly break Jinchuriki seals, given the level of seal it has the power to break.

Spiritual Sword technique is the only Spiritual Ken to have the Shinigami like affect. While it needs to actually hit the opponent to do anything, this affect is incredibly powerful, and if somehow combined with Dokkodo, which prevents healing except from outside sources, is a very powerful semi-permanent debuff.

  • Find a way to apply Dokkodo properties to Spiritual Ken and vice versa.
  • Look into letting Dokkodo's damage shaving to go beyond zero (dropping damage resistance to negative values causing vulnerability).
  • Look into adding the affects of some/all of these technique to customs made, when they're Spiritual Ken, Dokkodo, or combination techniques.
    • Hopefully Dokkodo Spiritual Ken combo techniques are even able to be approved.

Example Technique progression:

(Kendo: Ittoryudan) Way of the Sword: To Take Decisive Action
Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra: N/A
Damage: 60
Description: Ittoryudan can mean either "To take decisive action" or "To split in two with one stroke", depending on how the kanji is read. As such, this powerful technique delivers a frighteningly powerful overhead slash aimed at splitting its target in twain, able to cleanly carve through even stone.

When used as a Spiritual Kenjutsu technique, the technique requires 30 chakra to perform and its name becomes [Name], and [effect changes to some Spiritual Kenjutsu technique as such].

When used as a Dokkodo technique, the technique requires 30 chakra to perform and its name becomes [Name], and [effect changes to some Dokkodo technique as such].

When used as a combination Spiritual Kenjutsu and Dokkodo technique, the technique requires 30 (40?) chakra to perform and its name becomes [Name], and [effect changes to some Spiritual Kenjutsu and Dokkodo combination technique as such].

Note: Usable X times per battle/on X turn cool down.

[Name] variants on different cooldowns/usage limits? SKen and Dokkodo techniques of the same rank, but the combination technique is one rank higher?

( Fudōchi Shinmyōroku: Taiaki ) – The Unfettered Mind: Annals of the Sword Taia
Type: Offensive/Defensive/Supplementary
Rank: Forbidden
Range: Short – Long
Chakra: 60 ( -20 per turn )
Damage: 120
Description: The user will draw their sword while Fudōchi Shinmyōroku is active. Based on the Rōnin’s Dangerous Strike, the Annals of the Sword Taia forms a complete spiritual ethereal warrior around the user’s body, resembling their own form. This technique is much like Susano’o though with much smaller stature; the body of Taia is the expression of the ultimate spirit, capable of passing through physical targets that would otherwise obstruct a blade and directly strike at the spiritual energy of a technique or target to inflict its damage. In a sense, this technique is simply an extension of the aura formed during the Unfettered Mind. Taia lasts for the remainder of the duration of the Unfettered Mind, though while it is active the user is only able to perform Spiritual Kenjutsu through their ethereal guardian. The guardian’s damage, while immense, comes at the cost of a move. Usable twice and lasts as long as the remaining time on Unfettered Mind; once this technique expires the user will be unable to use techniques above A-Rank for a single turn.
Note: Can only be used by Rōnin biographies.
Note: Requires the user to have first used The Unfettered Mind.

( Kuebiko ) - Kuebiko
Type: Supplementary
Rank: Forbidden
Range: Short – Long
Chakra: 60 ( -20 per turn )
Damage: N/A
Description: A restricted skill among the Ronin, Kuebiko invokes the skill of Spirit Mimicry in battle, allowing the user to link their spiritual energy with that of the targets. This link is established by cutting themselves across the hand and swiping it across the length of the blade. With the blade now glowing, the user releases a wave of spiritual energy at the target in a similar fashion to Hungry Ghost. When a link is established with the target by having his sword's jutsu strike the opponents, the user will link the opponent's spiritual energy with his own, creating a mixed pool of energy to utilize. This allows the user the ability to utilize Spiritual Kenjutsu and Techniques with half of the chakra being fueled by the opponent's chakra and not solely his own. This mixture of both allows it to bypass opponent defenses, dealing direct damage to their spiritual network despite durability levels. Because of the associated cost, the user loses 20 chakra and 5 health each turn this is active, being able to be ended at will.
Note: Can only be used by Rōnin biographies and only once per battle.

Susanoo-lite does incredible damage and basically becomes the defacto Spiritual Ken technique to use when its up. The Guardian does immense damage, though it seems you're limited to ONLY the 120 damage slash the guardian can use? This means it doesn't carry any of the other effects, such as the Shinigami cutting.

Kuebiko is interesting. Apparently the technique itself sends out the wave, and that's what makes contact with the opponent. The drawbacks are pretty steep, but I've considered that it could potentially be used with the Yin spec to siphon off huge amounts of chakra from the opponent, using their chakra to help fuel their own.

Ultimately, despite a few powerful and interesting techniques, I feel spiritual kenjutsu is super underwhelming on its own UNLESS it can ride along Dokkodo. Getting hit by it is obviously dangerous, and a few of the techniques seem to have mechanisms in place to avoid them being simply "blocked", but they could always be avoided, especially with the new rules in place.

Custom Weapon Ideas:

See this link for input on Nagareboshi.

June 15, 2021: Nagareboshi has too many subabilities to be approved as is, and the variable boost alone is a pretty much instant no sell; its just not an approvable concept. Day and Night become increasingly difficult to work around.

(Rengoku) Purgatory
Rank: N/A
Type: Weapon
Chakra Cost: N/A
Damage:
Description: ----

No solid concepts for Purgatory yet, other than it being a crossguard that is placed ON any given sword, granting its effects to the blade, as a way to "sidestep" the lack of indestructible tools.

(Kurai Taiyō) Dark Sun
Rank: N/A
Type: Weapon
Chakra Cost: -5 per turn
Damage: +20 to Kenjutsu, Dokkodo, and variants.
Description: A prototype chakra sabre, this sword appears as only the hilt of a katana, wrapped in jet black cloth, with a tsuba that is hexagonal in shape and with two triangular cutouts flanking the sides. When activated, the sword produces an undulating, black flame like blade of chakra, infused with natural energy, as the blade was meant to augment the use of Dokkodo. The effects of the sword impart all techniques used through it with the petrifying effects found with natural energy usage.

Dark Sun's idea is either a CW or SNT chakra saber with the idea of having a blade that can petrify on hit, though most Dokkodo already has such effects.

Custom Techniques:

(Zen Shūchū Jōchū) - Total Concentration Breathing: Constant

Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: Self
Chakra: N/A
Damage: N/A
Description: A practice of Martial Arts where a combatant forces complete control of their breathing, in order to increase their physical and mental capabilities; Total Concentration Breathing: Constant is the practice of doing so constantly, even while sleeping, to train one's body and mind at all times. The benefits from doing so make practitioners more fearsome opponents, granting them a handful of benefits: the practitioner increases the level of their Speed Resistance within Short Range by 1; their base speed increases by 1, their base tracking speed increases by 1; and when the practitioner takes damage, either by getting hit, taking recoil damage, or taking fatigue effects (Torso, Spiritual, etc), they can delay the damage and its effects entirely by one turn.
Note: This technique is passive, and is considered always active.

Would it be worth trying to tack on +10 or +20 to Kenjutsu and Taijutsu to this? The other effects aren't large in their magnitude, but the potential overlap this have with SHB could be problematic, and the sheer number of benefits this grants.

(Kyokuchi) - Furthest Earth
Type: Supplementary
Rank: A
Range: Self
Chakra: N/A
Damage: N/A
Description: The ultimate stepping technique that allows movement through any space. An advancement on the tree climbing and water walking techniques, users of Kyokuchi can cross things like pools of lava unscathed, and can step on the air itself, due to the chakra concentrated at the soles of their feet.
Note: Passive, and does not require activation.

This idea has definitely been done before in some manner. If this isn't approvable, it may be worth trying to get this done via SNT. Perhaps a small fleet of drones that orbits the users, which can be stepped upon or ridden?

June 12, 2021: Not achievable in its current state as a CJ. May need to abandon this idea, or try the SNT route.
