  • Some other movements
Defense

But before we begin, I have a few questions even though I'm aware I may have asked you before.

Have you had any prior experience with Kenjutsu, and what is Kenjutsu?

That was an okay answer.

Kenjutsu is the Art of the Sword, or the art of using the sword. Kenjutsu is so much more than "just the proper way to cut someone." Yes, a sword is a weapon, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be treated with proper respect - art of war or not, the use of the sword is still an art. There are two commonly held philosophies with swordsmanship:

1. If you don't fear the sword, you're not fit to wield one, or
2. If you don't respect the sword, you're not fit to wield one.

Most of those who become truly great swordsmen do one of the two, if not both.

Now, we still have a bit to figure out before we go on to your training.

Even though we'll be using bokken for this training, do you think you've had enough practice to know what kind of sword you prefer? Like, a longsword, a katana, a nadochi, etc? Different swords will make an impact on how you'll fight in the future, although this training is pretty universal.

But, regardless, before we begin, can you tell me what the differences between a one-handed strike and a two-handed strike might be, besides the obvious?

To begin with, i fear my sword power and the sword itself to be honest, my type of swords is long sword and katana.

One-handed sword might be faster than two-handed sword thought two handed sword has amazing power and more strenght and one handed sword is weaker

That's good, but there is much, much more to it than that.

With one hand on the blade, you don't have as much power, but you can give faster attacks, and you also have more freedom with your blade. You're able to make movements you wouldn't be able to when both arms have to go the same direction, and you can chain from one attack into the other, faster, most of the time.

Two-handed attacks are much more powerful, have much higher directional control, and a much faster striking speed, due to the additional force behind the blade, but you don't have as much moving freedom.

With this in mind, we'll begin the actual training portion.*Throws you a bokken.*

A horizontal attack strikes on the x-axis, or left to right, side to side, etc, however you want to think about it.

So, I'd like you to begin by first demonstrating a one-handed horizontal strike.

*When you try to slash at me, I simply - and quickly, duck underneath the blade, allowing it to sail harmlessly over my head - as soon as the blade clears over my head, I push upwards, propelling myself both vertically and towards you by pushing off the ground, and sink a powerful uppercut into your lower abdomen, before you can react.*

As I've said to others, if you attack me, how are you supposed to have anyone teach you.

Practice on the various training dummies I already said I had set up.

And one more, in more detail. Notate where the blade starts, what kind of slash your making, and where it ends; that's the basics of what I'm looking for in your descriptions.

*I start by picking a sword up, once done i put my sword to a level up to my mouth and my chest making a perfect form than i move it to my right side then, left side again to somehow confuse you i then, run towards the dummie and move the sword to my right (cause i'm left) and make a horizontal slash while still keeping the sword between my mouth and chest*

And that would confuse me how, exactly? Your move didn't make any sense in that aspect.

And, I guess that's okay enough to move on.

Now, next is vertical slashes, which strike on the Y-axis ( | ), or up and down.

Please demonstrate, in detail.

*I put my sword in a good position around my chest. I then, quickly move my right leg and while i'm moving my right left i quickly make a vertical slash with my sword, the slash is coming from above the dummy and aiming aiming around the middle of the dummy.*

Poor description. Do it again. :|

When describing an attack in a fight, there are few basic things you need to note:

  1. Direction (starting and ending) This is like "from right to left" or something of the sort
  2. The amount of hands on the weapon. While not necessary with some weapons, you need to mention this with swords, as it makes a difference
  3. And where you're aiming for the attack. That's not so important here, but it will be in a real battle.
Once more, in greater detail, please.

Sorry

*I put my sword on a good enough chest position on my right hand once done i make the sword face in front of me making it look direct (Me- sword) with a good position i then, run towards the dummy while running towards the dummy i lift up the sword with one hand and quickly move my left foot and while i'm moving my left leg and i'm near enough the dummy i make a vertical slash that slashes the dummy on the head and it will even go deeper which on a real battle it would cut the opponent on half*

You're getting closer, but you still have a lot of useless information. Despite wanting to win in a fight, there is a code of conduct, a type of mutual respect with other warriors; there's a difference between being cryptic, being vague, and just being confusing.

Your move falls into the last category; it's just not very well written. You can see what you should have posted, which would have been an acceptable post.

Here's an example of how I'd like to respond, from now on:

*Stepping towards the target, I quickly raise my blade, holding it in my right hand, and unleash a vertical slash down his center, aiming to cut him in two.*

That's bare minimum, but has all the necessary information, in an easily recognizable form.

If you're good, we'll move on.

I prefer lots of details - it shows you have a clear understanding and mastery of the materials presented to you.

But, anyway...

Can you describe to me first what a stab is, and how it would be useful?

A stab is a really fast attack towards the enemy, Stab has mostly been seen hitting/targeting weak parts of the body and they not really predictable but either strong enough to finish someone off and so is not fatal. Stabs are also, useful in close combats battle when we can't do a slash or stuff alike. If a stab is use properly it has the power to go through the enemy body and damage stuff like organs, heart and a lot more stuff which we can't really do with a normal slash.

Yes and no.

Stabs are indeed extremely quick, thus their usefulness. They strike quickly, and do not leave you open for an extended window of time, minimizing risk to yourself. However, as stabs strike vital organs with most attacks, they are extremely fatal.

The ability to instantly end a battle is present in stabs - however, a skilled opponent, given range and depending on the situation, can not only easily dodge a stab, but deflect it; and this puts you at a disadvantage. Given the speed of stabs, though, you can easily retract your blade, minimizing the time that you are at a disadvantage. The problem lies, though, in quickly resuming your stance, or fending off their quick counter that will follow the deflection.

Now, if you would, please demonstrate a stab in detail.

*I'm holding my sword on my right hand the tip of the sword pointing at my chest but the sword also, looking towards the dummy i then, make one step ahead with my left leg while i quickly pull my right hand towards the dummy i again pull my hand back to give the stab more force and strenght but i also, pull my right arm i then, stretch my arm in front of me making the stab longer and stabbing the dummy which on a real body the stab would pass through the body*

That was good, but you had a few errors - you don't point the sword at yourself (I believe what you meant was that you had the pommel facing your chest, but this is something that could be confusing to another person), you push the blade away from yourself - not pull it away from you.

I know what you were getting at, but it's that kind of detail that I'm trying to get you away from, so that you're using the right description.

Let's try it again, please.

*By holding my sword like a normal looking position with the sword in front of me which is facing the dummy and is extremely straight but also, kinda near i quickly make one step ahead with my left leg while i quickly pull my right hand towards the dummy i again pull my hand back to give the stab more force and strenght but i also, pull my right arm i then, stretch my arm in front of me making the stab longer and stabbing the dummy which on a real body the stab would pass through the body*

I fixed the position only everything else was copied from my last response.

Overall i'm holding the sword straight like this and almost looking like this but not exactly, this is just an idea.
