Blaze Release (炎遁, Enton) is an advanced chakra nature. Sasuke Uchiha uses this technique when modifying the unquenchable black flames of Amaterasu. It is unknown what this nature entails or how it is created.


The Boil Release (沸遁, Futton) are techniques that combine fire and water-based chakra to create a powerful corrosive vapor capable of melting anything. The user is also able to control the range of the vapor's acidity. Boil Release is the second kekkei genkai of the Fifth Mizukage.



The Byakugan (白眼; Viz "Evil Eye" or "All Seeing White Eye"; Literally meaning "White Eye") is Dōjutsu Kekkei Genkai, a genetic trait that is shared amongst the members of the Hyuga Clan. Those that inherit the blood of this clan have almost featureless white eyes (Neji's and Hinata's eyes seem to have tints of lavender and blue-grey, respectively). Although it is not stated directly, it is assumed that all members of the Hyuga family possess the Byakugan. It is a common, although unproven, belief that the Sharingan is a genetic offshoot of the Byakugan.
Just like the Sharingan, the Byakugan can also be transplanted into another person, as Ao of Kirigakure did so. Transplanted Byakugan eyes can be activated and deactivated at the user's will, unlike the Sharingan which is always active.


The Crystal Release (晶遁, Shōton; English TV "Crystal Style") is a specialized field of Ninjutsu that can create crystal as well as manipulate already-existing crystals and crystalline structures. It is seen only in the anime, and its only known user is Guren. Additionally, due to Guren's crystal dragons being shattered by Kakashi's Lightning Blade and Kiba having mistaken the actual element for an Earth Release technique, it is strongly believed Earth is one of the elements needed to create crystals.
According to rumors that Tsunade had heard, Crystal Release can crystallize any substance, thus, Earth, Water, and Wood Release techniques are useless against it. Using Crystal ninjutsu, the user can crystallize any physical material and even the moisture that is present in the air around them, turning them into a weapon. In the case of human targets, Crystal Release can solidify its targets down to the cellular level, imprisoning and even killing the victim should the crystal ever be struck, reducing the mass of crystal and the victim down to crystalline dust.
The only apparent weakness of the Crystal Release is that it cannot crystallize either raw energy or chakra as they have no physical mass to crystallize, allowing a person with either energy-based jutsu, such Wind, Fire and Lightning Releases, or good chakra control to properly counter it. Crystal Release is also susceptible to a specific sound wave frequency; because crystal requires a very precise build-up of molecules, the proper sound waves can break down the build-up before the crystal can properly form. Rinji, taking advantage of this weakness, used his Ninja-Bats to counter Guren's Crystal Release.


The Dark Release (冥遁, Meiton) jutsu are techniques that can be used to absorb, manipulate, and release chakra taken from an opponent. This nature has only been demonstrated by Hiruko in Naruto Shippūden 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire, who obtained it by using his Chimera Technique to steal the Kekkei Genkai of another ninja. The chakra natures combined to perform Dark Release techniques are unknown.


Haku's kekkei genkai, Ice Release (氷遁, Hyōton; Viz "Haku's Secret Arts of Water", English TV "Ice Style") allowed him to combine wind and water-based chakra to create ice which he could manipulate through willpower alone. The ice Haku created was largely immune to fire-based attacks, only melting slightly when coming into contact with flames. Using his special ability, Haku developed the Demonic Ice Crystal Mirrors, which allowed him to create any number of mirrors made of ice to use as a shield or trap an opponent.

In the first Naruto movie, several of the Yukigakure ninja also had the ability to use Ice Release techniques. However, this was not the product of a similar kekkei genkai, as demonstrated by Kakashi's ability to replicate one of these techniques with his Sharingan. In addition, unlike Haku, who could create his own ice, the Ice Release techniques used in the movie required the users to manipulate already existing ice. The Yukigakure ninja most commonly used the Dog hand seal.
Renga was also able to use a type of Ice Release technique without having the kekkai genkai.

A special technique used by the Third Kazekage. The Third studied a host of the One-Tailed Shukaku and learned to imitate the power to control sand. However, when he imitated sand techniques, he used iron sand instead, thanks to his special magnetic powers. He could use it to crush his opponents or even mold the sand into weapons. The Iron Sand can also clot up the joints of puppets, making them unusable in battle as long as the Third Kazekage's magnetic field is in effect.
When the Third Kazekage was turned into a Human Puppet, Sasori gained access to the Iron Sand abilities and imbued the sand with his poison. The puppet was later destroyed by Sakura Haruno and Sasori's grandmother, Chiyo.
As the Third Kazekage's ability to convert chakra into magnetic fields is unique to himself, when his puppet form was destroyed, the Iron Sand technique became lost forever.



Dust Release (塵遁, Jinton) ninjutsu are created by combining the earth nature with another, unknown element. The element is capable of pulverising anything it touches into molecule-sized dust. This nature has only been demonstrated by Onoki, the current Tsuchikage.




Every few generations a member of the Kurama clan will be born with an incredible talent for genjutsu. The clan member's talent in that field is such that their genjutsu is completely irresistible. Furthermore, the genjutsu is so powerful that it causes the brain to make anything that happens to the victim within the genjutsu physically real, allowing the clan member to potentially kill their opponents with genjutsu. Such frightening power is not without its drawbacks, however. The user can rarely control the full extent of their abilities, and as such their subconscious will often regulate that power, leading to the creation of a second personality in control of that power. This personality then overwhelms the original, turning the individual into a monster that's a danger to everyone around them.



The Lava Release (熔遁; 溶遁, Yōton; Viz "Corrosion Style") jutsu are techniques that combine fire and earth-based chakra to create a torrent of lava that can melt away almost anything. Lava Release is used by the Four-Tailed Monkey, and it's jinchūriki Rōshi, and is one of the kekkei genkai used by the Fifth Mizukage.


The Mangekyo Sharingan (万華鏡写輪眼, Mangekyō Sharingan; Literally meaning "Kaleidoscope Copy Wheel Eye") is a heightened form of Sharingan. The Mangekyo Sharingan gives the user access to powerful and forbidden techniques. The Mangekyo Sharingan is distinguished from a normal Sharingan through its appearance, which changes the form of the tomoe seal. Unlike in the case of the Sharingan, the appearance of the Mangekyo Sharingan differs from user to user; Kakashi Hatake's and Itachi Uchiha's both resemble pinwheels, Madara Uchiha's and his brother, Izuna's look more like a detailed form of the basic three-tomoe Sharingan, and Sasuke Uchiha's looks like a star.
To acquire the Mangekyo Sharingan, someone close to a Sharingan user must die and the emotion of the loss is responsible for its unlocking. To expedite this occurrence, most Uchiha throughout history have killed their closest friends or family members in order to meet this criteria,[1] though, how Kakashi gained his Mangekyo Sharingan has yet to be explained. (It is interesting to note that in order to obtain the Mangekyo Sharingan, one must feel the emotion of losing a friend, the act of killing them or watching them die alone will not activate it. This is seen with Sasuke and his Mangekyo.)
Over time, use of the Mangekyo Sharingan deteriorates the user's eyesight to the point of blindness. Only by taking and transplanting the eyes of one's sibling (who also wields the Mangekyo Sharingan) can the vision be restored, a process that results in the creation of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan (永遠の万華鏡写輪眼, Eien no Mangekyō Sharingan). Not only does this process restore one's eyesight, but it also gives the person greater power. There are only three known living shinobi left who possess the Mangekyo Sharingan: Kakashi Hatake, Madara Uchiha, and Sasuke Uchiha.

Ranmaru has a Dōjutsu Kekkei Genkai ability similar to the Byakugan. It includes penetrating vision, disrupting eye-based kekkei genkai, and a unique chakra particle extension. He had the ability to use his vision abilities to penetrate the walls of his small shack and view the outside world and perform Genjutsu that can fool even the Byakugan. This ability does not appear to have the range of the Byakugan, but it actually has the ability to counter that Hyuga trait. Ranmaru's vision is also able to locate and track others by sensing chakra, pick up chakra from long distances, and notice changes in an individual's chakra. It is also able to sense how many of them are present.
Ranmaru's vision has heightened perception and analytical powers not unlike the Sharingan, meaning Ranmaru can comprehend any details he sees to predict the opponent's next move. This ability contributed mainly to Raiga being so formidable in battle and becoming one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. He can also see one's life force, allowing him to determine that Raiga, who had recently fallen in battle, was still alive,and he was able to transfer part of his own life force to Raiga. When activated, Ranmaru's eyes momentarily glow red.

Kaguya clan, which gave them the ability to manipulate their own skeletal structure. By infusing their calcium with chakra, they can manipulate the growth and properties of their bones to their likings. The ability seems to be rare amongst the clan members, as Kimimaro was the only one to exhibit it out of his entire clan.
Apparently, this ability gives the user a unique body, as when Kimimaro was fatally ill, Kabuto Yakushi claimed there had been too little information on his body to give any medical treatment.

The main capabilities of Shikotsumyaku is allowing the user to manipulate their bones' growth. This allows them to create weapons of bones that can either protrude from any part of the body, or pulled out and used like hand held weapons. They can even fire pieces of their bones as long-ranged projectiles. Any bone that they remove from the body immediately regenerates, as does the skin that is damaged when the bones are removed. Users can increase the density of the created bones, making them stronger than steel. This not only
makes the created weapons very powerful, but also makes their bodies virtually indestructible.
From what the only known user of this ability, Kimimaro, has shown, most of the techniques are named after flowers. Most of them are also taijutsu-based sword dances, which are used for close combat and defense. However, as Kimimaro demonstrated, the bones can also be forced to grow from the ground, as a form of a ninjutsu, and that he can emerge from any of these bones.

Soma no Ko (双魔の攻, Sōma no Kō; Literally meaning "Attack of an Evil Spirit Pair") is the unique ability of Sakon and Ukon that allows them to unify with another's body. Typically, Ukon is dormant in Sakon's body, with his head protruding from the back of Sakon's neck.
When Sakon is in need of assistance, Ukon can bring out some of his body parts to aid Sakon in blocking or attacking. Ukon's arms and legs can emerge from those of Sakon's to increase the force and quantity to his physical attacks.
If needed, Ukon can separate from Sakon's body so that the two can attack independently. While this can be an effective way of double teaming an opponent, Ukon is not used to being outside of or leading Sakon's body and is much weaker when he does so. Despite this, the separated brothers are capable of merging with the bodies of others and destroy the host's cells from the inside, slowly killing them. While within another's body, however, they are vulnerable to whatever injuries befall upon the host, in theory allowing the host to commit suicide to kill either of the brothers.
After their separation, should any injury befall either of the brothers, they can merge with each other to heal. This way, their healing rate is much faster than that of a normal human's, though it depletes a large amount of chakra. If Sakon is the one to lay dormant for healing, Ukon will have trouble as he is not used to being the lead body.

he Steel Release (鋼遁, Kōton) ninjutsu are created by combining two unknown chakra natures. To date, this form of nature manipulation has only been used by Hiruko, who obtained it using his Chimera Technique, in Naruto Shippūden 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire.
Hiruko performs no named Steel Release techniques, but is able to use the Kekkei Genkai to make his body as hard a steel, causing it to become impervious to a variety attacks and weapons.

The Rinnegan (輪廻眼; Literally meaning "Samsara Eye") is the most revered and, according to Fukasaku, the most powerful of all the three great dōjutsu. The Rinnegan's occurrence is so rare that Jiraiya once believed its existence was only a legend, and Kakashi Hatake believes it to be only a mutation.[1] There have thus far been only two known users: the Sage of the Six Paths and Nagato. With the Sage long deceased and with Nagato now dead, there are no confirmed Rinnegan users alive at this point.
The Rinnegan is characterized by a ripple-like pattern around the pupil, with a grayish-purple iris and sclera. In addition to enabling the user to quickly master various jutsu, the user may also use all six forms of chakra nature transformation which, as noted by Ibiki, literally allows its user to use any technique they wish. It also allows the user to use all of the six paths techniques.[2] Like the Sharingan and the Byakugan, the Rinnegan also allows the user to see chakra, including otherwise hidden barriers. According to Nagato's partner Konan, the possessor of the Rinnegan is the seventh path of Pain, who is "beyond life and death", and can use the Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique, which allows the Rinnegan user to revive all people who have died recently.
Because Nagato's Six Paths of Pain were all reanimated corpses, their Rinnegan was added to their bodies by Nagato through some unknown means. By doing so, Nagato could see each individual body's field of vision, coordinating the bodies with extremely precise planning, even during battles. Due to this effect, unlike the Byakugan, the Rinnegan does not have a blind spot, as long as the bodies are looking in every direction or at least one body is looking at the desired target. Because of this advantage, an opponent must blind one body, or distract all others in order for a blind spot to be opened. The animals summoned by the Animal path also had Rinnegan eyes, suggesting that Nagato controlled and could see through them as well.



The Swift Release (迅遁, Jinton) ninjutsu are created by combining two unknown chakra natures. To date, this form of nature manipulation has only been used by Hiruko, who obtained it using his Chimera Technique, in Naruto Shippūden 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire.
Hiruko performs no named Swift Release techniques, but is able to use the Kekkei Genkai to move at extremely high speeds, to the point of near instantaneous movement.


Wood Release (木遁, Mokuton; English TV "Wood Style") techniques combine earth and water-based chakra to create wood. Wood Release techniques can be produced from anywhere, including the user's body, as the user's chakra is literally converted into a source of life. Hashirama Senju was the originator of this ability, evidenced by the fact that none of his relatives have been shown capable of using Wood Release. The First's ability to use these techniques was the reason for him being given the title of Hokage, and with Wood Release Secret Technique: Birth of Dense Woodland he was able to grow the trees that served as the foundation of Konohagakure.
Orochimaru, in his quest to harvest the First's abilities, injected his DNA into 60 test subjects, and out of the 60 only Tenzo survived. This gave Tenzo the Wood Release abilities. However, he is not as masterful as Hashirama.
A possibly unrelated technique, but unique to the First and Yamato, is the Hokage-style Sixty-year-old Technique - Kakuan Entering Society with Bliss-bringing Hands. This technique produces a seal "sit" (座) on the user's hand that can suppress a tailed beast's influence over its host. This is done by producing wooden dragons from the ground that attach to the host and force the tailed beast's chakra to recede. The First Hokage's Necklace aids in this technique's execution, but its exact role is unclear.

The Sharingan, unlike the Byakugan, is not automatically activated in the user by birth. It is only first unlocked under some stressful or emotional condition, after which, though, the Sharingan may be used freely. When the Sharingan is first activated by a user, it has a different number of tomoe (巴) around the central pupil, varying between users.[1][2] The wielder of the Sharingan, through continued use and training, evolves it further which involves gaining more tomoe, up to a maximum of three. As the Sharingan evolves, the user gains heightened abilities. The only level up from the three tomoe Sharingan is the Mangekyo Sharingan, which is gained by the emotional stress stemming from the loss of someone close to the user.

The first of the Sharingan's powers is being able to see the chakra flow. The Sharingan can tell if a person is under a genjutsu because the person's chakra flow would be irregular.
The Sharingan's second-most prominent ability grants the user an incredible clarity of perception, allowing them to easily recognize genjutsu and different forms of chakra, though not to the same extent as the Byakugan. This also allows the user to pick up on subtle details, enabling them to read lip movements or mimic something like pencil movements. As the Sharingan evolves, gaining more tomoe seals, this ability extends to being able to track fast-moving objects before finally giving some amount of predictive capabilities to the user. However, even though the user may be able to see an attack or know it is coming, their body may not have time to react.
The Sharingan's third and most well-known ability is that it grants the user the ability to memorize any technique that he or she witnesses, apart from other Kekkei Genkai techniques. The user can memorize ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu with perfect accuracy, allowing the user to use the techniques as his own, or even modify them to create his own new techniques, much like Sasuke Uchiha's Lion Combo. In order to reproduce a copied jutsu, however, one must have the necessary skill or ability to perform them. A prime example is Rock Lee's brand of taijutsu. While Sasuke was able to copy some of Lee's moves, they put a much more significant strain on him since he hasn't trained nearly as much as Lee has. In addition to physical skill and kekkei genkai techniques, the Sharingan cannot reproduce jutsu dependent on other factors, such as summons that the user has not signed a contract with.
The Sharingan's final ability is capable of inducing a unique brand of hypnosis that involves suggesting actions and thoughts to the opponent through simple eye contact. When used in conjunction with the other aspects of the Sharingan, this allows the user to perfectly mimic every move their opponents make even before they do, making it appear as if the user can "see the future". More advanced Sharingan users can take the hypnosis ability even further by tricking or even trapping their opponent within an illusion. The potency of the Sharingan's illusion is dependent on the user's knowledge and skill with implementing genjutsu.
Although the Sharingan consumes the user's chakra while active, the chakra levels that the user must exert is so insignificant that they can keep it active constantly. In fact, Itachi Uchiha was so masterful of it, he was able to keep it active for most of the time, only once deactivating it after using Tsukuyomi on Sasuke and Amaterasu to escape Jiraiya. However, when a Sharingan is transplanted to a non-Uchiha, the chakra drain is significant, leading them to cover it up when not in use, to stop the drain
