So the kawarimi no jutsu (or replacement technique) is a jutsu that you cast in advance of an impending attack correct? Its confusing but i see it working one of three ways
1) You cast the jutsu, and then the next time you take damage it activates
2) You cast the jutsu and continuously provide chakra UNTIL the attack lands and you replace yourself (meaning that you can't just cast the jutsu in the morning before a mission so that you won't die next time you get hurt)
or
3) You use the replacement technique, which moves you to a nearby location, and then a near by object is put in your place, and transformed to look like you so that IT can take the damage instead (meaning that you couldn't cast the jutsu and then continue fighting. I'd assume your "replacement" merely stands there looking like you)
Whichever way it works, i CAN'T see why the izanagi is superior
with izanagi (mind you its usage seems inconsistent and its explanation is a bit weird), you allegedly cast the jutsu (at the cost of your eye) and whatever events transpire over the course of the next minute (for danzo) or 5 minutes (for Tobi) are changed such that you can keep what things you like and undo things you don't.
The only difference that i see between this and the substitution technique is that with izanagi, it doesn't only pertain to you taking damage. Any events can be left or removed, meaning that you could hit someone, and they hit you, but only your hit is counted. Well even with the substitution, if you and your opponent launch attacks and you substitute yourself, your hit still would land. It doesn't matter which interpretation of the substitution you use, it STILL has the same effect.
So i don't get why people in the current anime are trumpeting praise for this jutsu given that it works EXACTLY like a replacement. I mean i know that replacement isn't really used in naruto much anymore because it was over powered, but it IS still a jutsu (hell they kept in the the filler part of the episode) and at least it doesn't cost you your eye.
Can someone please tell me I'm not crazy? Is there some weird advantage that the izanagi has over substitution? Also the "feud" that it caused in the uchihas didn't make any sense and felt forced
