As far as the DNA test goes, then it's either this:
The Red Herring is not for Sakura; it's for Karin. Orochimaru is using karin's body. I compared the facial structures yesterday and day before yesterday to confirm this. The tilt of the head, her mysterious absence from the main compound, and Orochimaru's clone experiments with Shin ... it seems to fit nicely together. Also, the fact that 1) Chouchou couldn't guess whether Orochimaru looked like a man or a woman, gives an indication that he is using a female body most likely and 2) Suigetsu thinks that Karin is on some other hideout is also solid enough reason to cement this argument; he doesn't exactly know where she is.
So Orochimaru either 1) gave birth to Sarada, through some freakish Kishimoto developed science, or 2) she's an experiment that uses Sasuke and Karin's Dna. Sasuke most probably found her on his travels. That's what I think anyway. But this route seems to be too dark for a Shonen manga, especially the exploration of sexual boundaries through Orochimaru; a very very complex topic for a manga like Naruto. Too complex, in fact.
Or this:
The Red Herring is for Sakura. If one looks at it from this angle, then it has been a pathetic red herring from the start:
- Salad questions whether Sakura is her mom or not for no reason at all. The first red herring premise. It happens world over that people marry through arranged marriages and fathers go abroad and they can't come back for a considerable time. Sometimes more than a decade.
- Sakura loses her cool, enough, to punch the ground for no reason, and conviniently, the whole house is destroyed and Salad sees the cracked picture out of the entire rumble.
- Sakura faints before she can answer, and conviniently doesn't wake up before Salad doesn't leave.
- When she meets up with them, and seems ready to answer Salada's questions, Sakura is conveniently taken away.
- When Salad shows up at the compound, the one person that can say yes or no, isn't at the compound but somewhere else.
- Suigetsu probably didn't mess up, and Sakura was given Karin's Dna for the birth. Since we don't know where Sakura gave birth, it could very well have been out of the village, as she wanted to travel with Sasuke.
Karin may have overseen the birth and helped. Not very far-fetched.
If Kishimoto is going for this Sasuke x Karin route, then he has a cheap way of showing it as this has low-key red herring written all over it. Not to mention the fact that I can't see an out of wed-lock affair happening in a manga aimed at 12 year olds. This would be too realistic and too crude for such type of manga with very low rating bar.
This can be titled in so many ways, as the confirming part either isn't there, or simply chose not to say anything. Nothing is confirmed at the moment.
Please. There are so many ways this could be flipped.
I will almost guarantee Kishi is trolling in some way.
Nothing is truly confirmed until Sasuke, Karin, or Sakura says it.
I agree. This has too many loop-holes to take seriously for now.
