Did you notice it? That rasengan didn't make contact in the other dimension; it made contact in this one.

Tobi assumed the rasengan was canceled by Naruto and rematerialized, and, the second he did, Kakashi brought back the rasengan.

Kakashi didn't just realize that the dimension he uses and Tobi use is the same, he realized that Tobi is using Kamui and is just better at Kamui than him.

And Kakashi suddenly realized that meant he could bring things back from the pocket dimension, too. Things, like the rasengan.

it seems that Tobi's Kamui is like Image Transparency, Once he switches on his kamui, everything in his field will go dematerialized . e.g Gai's Nunchaku and Tobi's body simultaneously materializing.

Then how did his knife hit him? Surely if he bought it back he'd have known about it?

I think the Kamui just sends stuff to the same place Tobi's body goes when he's untouchable

He didn't bring back the kunai. That stayed in the other dimension and hit Tobi in that dimension, which is why we didn't see the impact. On the other hand, we saw the impact of the rasengan.

that's what I'm thinking xd When tobi is intangible his body is dematerialized to the same pace that kamui warps objects to so now he's pretty screwed
