I think it's smart what he does

Kakashi uses his sharingan because Obito gave it to him as a gift and I don't think it's cheap because Kakashi want's to become stronger so none of his comrades dies like Obito did and he feels like it was his fault. So no it's not cheap

probably because copying the jutsu is not as efficient. it probably doesnt work half the time because half the jutsus kakashi copied are basic
