Don't be a moronic fanboy, please. We know Kakashi is good but he's not that good.
Kakashi has ninjutsu and genjutsu going for him but Gai is a total beast with his taijutsu and he's trained specifically to defend against genjutsu and the sharingan. Gai does not have to stand still to open the gates, he has been seen doing it while moving, and kamui only works if Kakashi can focus on his target, which wouldn't be an option since Gai moves so damn fast.
I say they're pretty evenly matched, and unless one of them screwed up they would just knock each other out.

Ohh, and also, using kamui has adverse effects that aren't thoroughly known. It may cause blindness, but even if it didn't it uses up absurd amounts of chakra. Kakashi wouldn't be so reckless as to use it unless totally necessary. If he used kamui and missed, then Gai would rip his head of.

FIRST OFF you have to look at the fighting styles. Both guys are very strong. Kakashi is an ingenious strategist from the second any fight starts to the end. Gai tends to rely more on his physical abilities(and he can because he is a very strong fighter), as seen with the fight against Kisame. Having said that, I feel that they Kakashi would force Gai into the 8 gates. They would proly fight in the beginning and through some cunning way Kakashi would be able to force him into the 8 gates or death. Having used the 8 gates, I believe the would actually be fairly closely matched. In the end I think that Kakashi would be slightly better however. Meaning he could take out Gai, but face serious injuries. And through it all should there be any point where Kakashi couldn't handle Gai, then Kakashi could use his Mangekyō Sharingan which he now is able to use very well and several times a day, and defeat Gai indefinitely.

so not only could kakashi use sharingan and 8 gates he can also use genjutsu.
but kakashi uses up too much chakra due too the fact he can never relax his sharingan he does the best he can by covering it but it still uses a little chakra.

if kakashi use 3rd gate plus sharingan plus lightning blade gai would loose.

Really im sure that kakashi would have done just as good against kisame as gai did i put them on the same level but they specialize in different things. And i dont think that he would kill kakashi with each gate thats an extreme exaggeration O.O

u r ryt about the killing kakashi with each gate part. but c'mon how can kakashi in all his fury stand up to kisame or gai in an all out fight?
