I would argue with that. Pain is clearly above Kage level, but I'd say Itachi IS kage-level. (Well, not Tsunade, since Tsunade is to my mind the weakest kage when it comes down to pure power. She's the best medic of all, though)

Itachi and Kisame escaped from Jirayia and they probably didn't even know about Sage Mode. I think this puts Itachi under the likes of Jirayia and Pain, although he's still a powerful kage ninja.

Ironically, I'd say it's Itachi who's overrated. But I guess it's a matter of opinion...

Are you serious? Itachi and kisame would have wiped the floor with them if they wanted too. They only retreated because the anbu black ops were coming and it would of been pointless to fight them

In the anime it's different i dont read Naruto manga I only watch the anime but i think your right

Besides that, I'm pretty sure the scene was present in the anime as well. I might be wrong, though.

Now I actually don't think that Itachi could of finished kakashi then because Itachi used Tsukiyomi which he lost a huge amount of chakra from So Itachi was practically immobile then kisame went to get kakashi but gai stopped him then Itachi told him to let's go because even if kisame beat gai he probably would have been badly injured but gai would have holded him off until the anbu black ops come and Itachi didn't want too start a war (in anime)
