I never thought about this but it is a mystery, because he got it at 2t so that defeats the theories above. its odd enough he was able to use MS. the only thing that saves that plot hole is one can say since obito awakened it awakened in kakashi, but if that was the case then kakashi would figured out obito was still alive?? there's a lot of things that I wish they explained things more in naruto but oh well. one piece>naruto

I said "Whatever" because it's an irrelevant detail which number of Tomoe it was. The eyes of the Uchiha have four stages: The normal eye with no Sharingan activated. the Tomoe stage, the Mangekyo/Eternal Mangekyo stage, and the Rinnegan stage.

If you receive an eye in a certain stage, you can't go lower. If Kakashi got the eye in the Mangekyo stage, he wouldn't be able to go lower than Mangekyo. This is why Nagato couldn't go lower than Rinnegan with Madara's eyes. One tomoe, two tomoe and three tomoe are all different forms of the same stage: The Tomoe Stage.

Riker is correct. Kakashi got the eye at 2 tomoe but it upgraded as Obito went through his upgrades.

No, he can't. No Sharingan in the series has been able to move between the tomoe. That's why when Sasuke hit Two tomoe, his eyes went straight to Two Tomoe every time he activated it. That's why when he got 3T, his eyes went straight to 3T every time he activated it. It's just a higher form of the same stage. There isn't a 1T state, or 2T stage, or 3T stage, just the basic tomoe stage.

no uchiha ever went to 2t or 1t. everything else is kinda iffy besides that fact. im kinda leaning towards riker's theory. the part about nagato pretty much locks in the answer of not being able to downshift farther from where you got it. now the fact kakashi can go to ms is sketchy. can he do it because of his own power or is because obito unlocked it therefore both eyes are connected granting kakashi the same power. there again though if that was the case why didn't kakashi ever think obito was alive? or was he delusional enough to think he was strong enough to unlock that ability on his own??

Because the MS stage was awakened after the transplant. If he had gotten Obito's eye while Obito's eye was in the normal, deactivated stage, he would be able to go from normal to 3T to MS.

In simple terms, whatever the stage the eye was in when it was transplanted, that's its default stage. Nagato's eyes were default Rinnegan because the eyeballs were transplanted into his eyes in that stage.
