Then when Kakashi saw Tobito, why would he be surprised? If he saved Obito, he wouldn't be as surprised as if he thought Obito was dead. And the rasengan doesn't need any handsigns, so how would he create Chidori, a justu that requires handsigns, from failing on a jutsu that had no handsigns, the Rasengan???

Kakashi had enough chakra to use Chidori and destroy the boulder, however, he would be almost out of chakra. Obito said to protect Rin, if Kakashi used the last of his chakra to save Obito, Kakashi wouldn't have the chakra to kill the Hidden Stone ninja.
