Yeah, it definately makes sense, seeing as how there is so much resemblence in the death reaper and Kaguya... Then however at the same time, there her yang part of her soul could've manifested into the body of the Juubi.... or other way around I guess.

I made a theory on this myself that whoever has all the Bijuu power gets closer to Kaguya. Now, the Sage clearly said that they cleaned up their mothers sin. But who knows what kind of power she attained by eating the fruit? For all we know, this 'Death God' could very well be her punishment.

In fact, this seems to be the only plausible explanation. If Kishimoto doesn't go this way, then he better have a damn good explanation for discarding such an obvious plot devise. I wholeheartedly agree that she is both. I said this in LightBringer's thread as well - Kaguya WAS the original Juubi and her spirit is what lingers in these Sages and is suffering punishment in form of the Shinigami.

Great thread! Very interesting, I like this kind of thing, about how the story ties in with history, it can help you understand the lessons behind the story and even where the story may be heading.
I remember having a discussion not so long ago about The Madara Rider - a World Heritage Site carving in Bulgaria and how that may relate to the story. I thought it was a clever idea using the horses' name, as the horse (which is named Madara) is often used to depict mindless power "horse-power" etc. and even the Japanese word for a car "kuruma" has "uma" or "horse" for power in the word, and the carving is 100m on a vertical cliff so clearly it could only have been carved by ninjas. haha ;-)
Here in the manga though bought the surprise that the Uchiha's are about love and not power as I'd thought, which made me sympathise with them a lot more. Obito reminds me of crushed love, and Naruto shines and connects like burning love.
Another interesting thing I heard in Japanese history is the story about the Jubokko tree which may have helped inspire the story of the 10 tails tree. It is a vampire-demon tree that appears around battlefields and feeds on the blood of the fallen.. Very creepy..
This is the reference scene about the Uchihas being "love".

Many speculated that Kaguya is the Death God (Hannya Demoness) of the Shiki Fuujin:

While others (based on the latest chapter) speculate that Kaguya is the Juubi:

Many will choose one over the other: she is either the Death God or the Juubi

But these two hypothesis need not be mutually exclusive. She can be both.

We know that in Taoism, there is the cosmic duality of Yin and Yang.

This duality is also applicable to the soul: it is called Hun (魂) and Po (魄)

The Hun (Yang Soul) is the spiritual part which departs from the body after death

Hun is also associated with Spirit Tablets aka Ancestral Tablets:

And the Po (Yin Soul) is the soul which remains with the corpse of the deceased

The ancient chinese script for Po 魄/霸 also meant "Lunar Brightness"

So it is possible that Kaguya's soul was split in two, either the Death God is the Hun (Yang Soul) while the Juubi is the Po (Yin Soul) or the other way around.

Thank you for reading, and please vote on the poll above. *_*

Fml, I hate to say it but I disagree with this thread. Not because of the logic, because that was beautiful. I just disagree with the premise that Kaguya became the Juubi. It just comes down to how you interpret that scan. I believe what she meant by "become one" was that she become the Juubi's Jinchuriki.
