I know it's irrelevant to figure out who Tobi is and I know everyone is tired of theories but this is my first idea of it. I posted this somewhere else but please don't put bad comments. I only have 2 ideas
Maybe kagami actually experimented on the 2nd. got his senju DNA and studied how to to use s/t jutsu to a different level with his sharingan without having to activate mangekyou, something he couldn't attain since he had no brother or close friends. his son obito had similar techs as you can see kakashi doing kumai. I think kakashi awakening his ms was something kagami couldn't do, but didn't have to do since he advanced his 3 tomoe sharingan with senju DNA.
Other idea Maybe kagami was tobiramas favorite student and they had a close bond. when tobirama died maybe kagami awakened ms, eventually learning about izangi/izanami and using one of the techs making him blind in his one eye. being close to Tobirama maybe he got the senju DNA and some training from tobirama about s/t and learned how to use it very efficiently with regular sharingan. idk why I think obito is his son, but maybe the link of tobirama and obito made him come up with the name of tobi. Maybe tobi was familiar with edo tensei because his mentor tobirama created it. In time, as kagamis character diminished/wasn't recognized as much as others in that time, he believed he became no one. he just didnt have the fame as other people in the ninja world war. Idk just throwing ideas out there
