DISCLAIMER: I'm not trying to underrate Hashirama, or whatnot. I'm just gonna show that Kabuto's statement on Hashirama being the strongest Shinobi isn't credible enough, due to Kabuto's many contradictions. Hashirama, in my eyes, is still more or less in the top 3. And I'll be using mainly VIZ scans to keep the thread clean.

The statement I'm referring to

"There is no shinobi alive today who is as powerful as the first Hokage, Senju Hashirama."

Why it's contradictory
1. Kabuto himself is a contradiction
First off, only a few hours before making that statement, Kabuto claims himself to be invincible, as we can see here:
You must be registered for see images
If he considers himself invincible, he considers himself stronger than any other shinobi. On top of that, Kabuto, at the time of making that statement, had multiple Edo Tensei pawns on him, including Edo Madara (who I'll get to later), so saying that Hashirama is stronger than Edo Madara and whoever else Kabuto had out is just stupid and invalid, because Hashirama was more or less equal to EMS Madara, NOT Edo Madara and the rest of Kabuto's army.
2. Kabuto and Madara contradict eachother
Right after claiming Hashirama to be stronger than any shinobi alive today, Kabuto goes on to say that Edo Madara is a union between Hashirama and Madara, implying that Edo Madara is stronger than both of them individually, as we can see here:

And this is while Madara himself that Hashirama still stands a chance against his current self. It's impossible to take all three statements together. Kabuto alone contradicts himself, and throwing in Madara's statements makes it even more confusing.
3. Kabuto's not credible enough to judge other peoples' strength
Seeing that Kabuto is seemingly inaccurate on the strength of his own lab experiment and himself, as he continuously contradicts himself and Madara, he's in no position to judge others' strengths. So people such as Tobi can not be put under Hashirama through Kabuto's statement alone, because Kabuto's full of contradictions. Hell, no top tier such as Nagato, Tobi, and Edo Madara should be put under him on those statements alone (Hashirama still > Nagato, and >= Edo Madara), because of the contradictions going on between Kabuto and Madara, and because Madara might have been referring to the past.

TL;DR/CONCLUSION: Kabuto seems to thing that himself, Hashirama, and Edo Madara are the strongest all at the same time. Waaaay to contradictory to be considered a credible statement. Added to that, Madara, going against Kabuto's words, possibly thinks that Hashirama can still beat him. So Kabuto's statement against loses credibility.

kabuto thought he was invincible with his edo army which is compromised of many shinobi. edo tensei really isnt kabutos power as confirmed by itachi. kabuto meant that no individual shinobi is on his level. he was obviously excluding edo madara as he thought he was a fusion of him and hashirama but only madara knew about hashiramas true strength.

Edo Madara is dead. Kabuto is right there is no shinobi alive stronger than Hashirama except maybe Naruto.

Hmm, that's a way to look at it I guess. But Kabuto did think that he was invincible with his Edo Army, yet he said Hashirama's stronger than anyone alive today. So he was, IMO, essentially saying that Hashirama > his invincibility because he apparently did consider the Edos part of his power. IDK man, Kabuto's got some serious moodswings. :p

@Dante: Nah, Hashi's Naruto's perfect counter. If anything, Tobi, not counting Madara, is the only other one who can beat Hashi.

He said he was invincible cuz of his Edo Tensei, and when you know he had someone like Edo Madara as a puppet before, we can clearly understand why he thinks that, but good that you have the viz translation. That helps to understand that there were possibly ninjas who were stronger than Hashirama but dead *cough Minato cough* +rep anyway :)

he said no shinobi ALIVE today is on the level of hashirama. thus making your point about edo madara invalid.

Kabuto is only saying he is invincible because he has an army of edos, and newly found strength with DSM. He didn't say he was stronger than hashirama.

Awesome thread man +rep. And that viz translation cleared a lot of confusion. Because the dead shinobis include Hiruzen, Minato, Tobirama, Nagato and many more

You're looking too much into it. The statements are vague.

When he says that no Shinobi is stronger than Hashirama he could mean single-handedly. Madara is not a single entity since the Hashirama face is living material. Kabuto was not a single entity since he has the DNA of others plus Impure World Resurrection.

Kabuto in sage mode with access to his summons is definitely the strongest force in the current Naruto world, but due to plot and eye hax Kabuto lost and did not have access to any of his summons during his fight.

A union between Madara and Hashirama does not mean he's as strong as both of them at their prime. Remember Madara only has a fraction of a Senju body on him. Hashirama's entire Senju body would have bigger max chakra reserves than this union. You gonna say Danzo's union with Hashirama made him as strong as the first Hokage?

Kabuto's words are the most reliable resource because he has already witnessed Madara's power. Orochimaru and Kabuto studied the cells of both sides and I am sure they have more knowledge than any other char in the series. Even Madara himself still praises Hashirama.
