The gimmick in that Sannin battle was that all three were heavily handicapped.

Jiraiya had been drugged, Tsunade was drunk & out of shape and Orochimaru didn't have his arms. This is the reason Kabuto as back-up was actually a big factor and allowed him to fight on par.

I suppose that does muddies the waters in that fight, but I still stand by my previous statement. Orochimaru > Tsunade

I mean, i'd agree she was the least restricted of the three but she still kicks the most ass in that fight by a mile. She brought them victory, even if Oro got away.

By the time Kabuto and Tsunade battled in part 1, rank DID matter. Kishimoto went out of his way to establish and repeat transparent power scales. Kakashi was equal to Kabuto but Sannin was a rank hyped and outwardly said to be higher than that. Kabuto is my favourite character and he sh*ts himself at her power and is only able to contend with a drunk, out-of-prime Tsunade because of her phobia.

Sounds about right, which is why only DB1and 2 can be taken seriously from both stat and consistent standpoint.

Not talking about NV perspective but readers perspective. Jounin to kage lvl is too big of an gap. Sannin lvl fits perfectly since anbu lvl is a joke. Jounins felt inferior to sannins while sannins were about on par/comparable with kage lvl. You mention kakashi = kabuto. Which is funny since both of them openly stated that sannin is a different lvl than them.
