That won't happen. We train together.
This isn't the usual 'post a jutsu then explain'-kind of training.

Tell me; what do you think of these Kenjutsu-techniques?
As a lover of RP, I feel they limit us. However, it as a necessary evil in an RP based off of HAVING to post a technique. It limits free-form kenjutsu in favor of "standard techniques" which I think lack personal flavor and a well thought out and imaginative description.

Btw Zero, if interested, there's my new bio.

The limiting factor that Omnom just stated is one of the problems we will face with it. I really don't have much else to add to that tbh.

Yeah, I'm sorry I haven't replied to your PM. I've just been swamped. I'd never have thought people were this demanding.

And I agree with the both of you. Canon Kenjutsu is extremely limiting. Close Quarter Combat is extremely exciting, but it requires good techniques. NB's Taijutsu was and still is saved by Kaito's contribution. We have no such thing in Kenjutsu.

When, if ever, would you use these tehcniques, and can you find anything in them that goes beyond the reach of freeform? (besides rank)

In all honesty, they seem too simple to disrupt froma defensive stand point. Simply saying you "dash at the opponent" isn't enough for me. What you stated about Taijutsu is why I never bothered to learn it. Free form is completely superior in my opinion.

My one question, would be how much can we alter the techniques but still have it counas a technique?

Example:

Chakra Spinning Blade: does it require being on the air? Or can we use it standing on the ground?

I'm not sure, but in free form maybe we can't have element usage implemented on the sword, like the Grass Cutter Sword technique. Although I feel I'm wrong, if so feel free to correct me. As for when I would use it, probably when I'm unable to use Tai and Ninjutsu. Since Tai would be a much efficient way to combat in close range, while Ninjutsu bosses all three.

Omnom: that's a very good question.
I've always lived by the rule that when you use a technique; you always stick to the 'core' of it. The core of 'Chakra Spinning Blade' is spinning around while having infused chakra into your blade.
How you get there is up to you; but you stick to the core of the 'attack', if so to speak.
You can, of course, also cut the technique short, simply by not performing the entire technique. This, however, can only be done with techniques that consists of multiple 'phases' of attack.

And you're correct, Josh, to a certain extend. While I could certainly focus lightning chakra into my blade and get the same 'sparkly' effect, it'd be an unranked action and, as such, all but moot in the larger frame. It's a nice thing to do, but while focusing on this 'unranked' action, you can't use another elemental technique, since you're technically in the middle of channeling chakra.

Tell me about these two techniques:
(Suraisu Shinku no Nami) - Slicing Crimson Wave
(Kusanagi no Tsurugi: Chidorigatana) - Grass Cutter Sword: One Thousand Birds Katana

1) Discuss alternative ways to use the two.
2) Decide which one is best overall.

In my mind, there are two types of people in the RP. Those who are comfortable in short range, and those who are terrified of it. The type of the second mentioned will spam techniques like Nagashi to keep anyone from getting near them, and using techniques such as these won't work any better than freeform. However, the people comfortable and willing to engage close range combat shouldn't need these techniques, as it would only limit the potential of the engage. Two good RPers in a freeform sword battle is pure beauty, and techniques would not be needed.

(Kusanagi no Tsurugi: Chidorigatana) - Grass Cutter Sword: One Thousand Birds Katana
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user flows Chidori current through a katana in manner similar to flying swallow technique. The Radiating and chirping blade can easily cut through steel. Furthermore, the body of the person cut by the sword goes numb, taking away their freedom of movement.
This is useful to attack directly living material. It adds to the lethality of the strike, so that if the blade itself doesn't kill, your opponent would be paralyzed, and you could then finish him. I could see myself using this in an engagement. I think it might be especially useful against summons, particularly large ones, to limit their movement.

(Suraisu Shinku no Nami) - Slicing Crimson Wave
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user does a simple cresent-shaped slash at the opponent, expelling a red chakra wave.
This is the epitome of bad descriptions to me. How wide is the wave? How fast does it move? How long is it? Does it cut sharply like a blade, or is it sharper/duller? Is it only energy, or does it have actual mass? Generic descriptions ftw!

If I could get some of the above questions answered, I think I could use this to add a surprise attack against my opponent, or a surprise defense against low rank techniques.

As for which technique is better, I'm not sure. But I can see myself using Chidori Katana over the Slicing Wave.

You both are aware of the situation I'm currently in D: and since im such a nice person and dont want to delay omnoms training Im just gonna say, I thought around the same answer as him as in that the first jutsu is a much better technique to be used in most scenarios compared to the second, simply due to the lack of description in the second, thus not showing the full potential of the characteristics of the strike itself which I would generally determine my choice by. Also you should be able to do this via free form kenjutsu. Sorry for the vague response.

@ Bold - Very true, but you won't ever see that in 'serious' battle. Not without techniques anyway.

And yes, the description is delightfully generic. It basically leaves everything up to the user.
Can you use this to your advantage? How/Why not?

You can use it to do some OP shizz lel.

Well, since the the description is so vague, it is very vulnerable for users to abuse it. Since there are no limits specified, the user can easily define the characteristics of the jutsus. For example, he can expand how big the wave in the second technique could be as much as he wishes, unless it is beyond belief of course. This leads me on to my next point, which is that although you can define it's characteristics to an extent, you have to know the limits as if you don't, it can be fairly costly. Again going back to the previous example, if you say that the wave specified in the second tech is the size of the Sun for example, this clearly means that you're being unrealistic as a small sword couldn't possibly utilise such a large amount of energy.

Very true. Tai and Kenjutsu share a sentiment of realism, if so to speak. Where Ninjutsu largely revolves around rank and damage, there's a deeper 'feel' to Close Quarter Combat (CQC).
So you've got to, as you said, be realistic with how you describe your use of this technique, but don't let that stop you from being creative.
Your turn, boys; can you see yourselves using this technique in different ways? And for Omnom specifically; how could you use the Chidori Katana in different ways?
