Not to mention the boy was quite foolish and arrogant. He didn't think in a lot of his decision making and that resulted in his death. I believe Tywin explained it best.

Agreed. Ramsey is an expert at torture and breaking people's wills but even he does it ultimately for the approval of his father. Joffrey was just sadistic and did it for the pleasure of his own ego
