Jiraya is overrated now and then but not to much, he is the strongest sannin in my opinion. Ppl keep refrencing the tym he fot oro and seem 2 4get he was drugged and shud not have even been awake let alone fyt anuther sannin @ the tym. He nearly took down pein and wud give any1 a hard tym in sm w his summons out.

Probably next to Minato I'd say Jiraya is the most overrated. First I'd like to say I do acknowledge his powers and achievements as a Sannin and a teacher. But it seems people like to overhype his powers and abilities sometimes.

Seriously? xd Jiraya beating Pein. Jiraya had difficulty before sage mode just dealing with the Animal Paths. The environment also was made up of hiding places to allow him to enter sage mode.

If Pein has started with all 6 or just the DEVA PATH Jiraya would have not lasted 5 minutes.

They way I interpret this page was that if Jiraya knew our secret maybe he would have got his ass out of here and looked for the real Nagato.

People are taking this statement the completely wrong way. Kisame and Itachi knew nothing about Jirayas abilities. Kisame was just going off Jirayas hype as a Sannin. I cannot stress this enough.

Noted: Itachi already defeated Orochimaru, a Sannin when he was 13 and imo was ≥ to Jiraya.

Jiraya can in no way beat Itachi. Especially without sage mode. No naming for the fact Jiraya has nothing to counter OP Susanno, Amaterasu and Tsyukomi. Jiraya has no experience battling with a sharigan user especially on Itachi's level.

How will Jiraya even fight him with just staring at his feet. :sy:

Kisame well this battle can go either way. However I believe Kisame has the upperhand, but this is debatable.

One other silly thing I heard was that Jiraya can touch people and they turn to frogs. Not exactly. I won't even bother posting manga pages because it's such a simple thing to understand. Jiraya had to transfer sage mode chakra into his targets by grasping them and focusing.

It is not as easy as a simple "touch". Which is not something an opponent above fodder would just let him do.

I think I've countered his hype pretty well. In no way am I trying to downplay his abilities, but he is not current top 10 now IMO. Saying he would win against characters like Pein, Sasuke, Naruto and Itachi is what forced me to make this thread.

I have to disagree about Jman being overrated. Still to date he is one of the top ten most powerful ninjas of the anime. I say this because Jman had a jutsu for just about any situation. Look at the Pein fight. He countered everything Pein had in that fight up until his death, and might I add he died only because he wanted to get info back to the leaf. Lets be serious he didn't even get touched until he thought he had killed the three Peins. Thats damn impressive considering all that he had to deal with in that fight. He could have easily escaped. Without that info even Naruto would not have been able to defeat Pein. And the question of what would happen if he fought Itachi has been answered since the beginning of the Naruto series. Itachi stated himself after he and Kisame ran from Jman that if both him and Kisame fought Jman Kisame would not even be a factor in the fight. And the best case scenario for the outcome of the fight would be that both Jman and Itachi kill each other. I think that proves that Jman is not overrated at all. Give him his props

Itachi didnt want to fight jiraiya even with kisames help. If not for jiraiya the whole leaf village would have been eliminated. No one else had as much success as Jiraiya without knowing the secret of the six paths of pain.

Also minato is underrated. He fought tobi and injured him and was able to fight the nine tails before the nine tails of power was reduced to fifty percent. Everyone in naruto seems to be completely blown away by the nine tails power, but they are only seeing half. Minato Transported Two TBB and the nine tails at full power itself. No one else could have fought tobi and handled the nine tails the way he did.

Oro's does'nt have that kind of mastery of Edo Tensai, When he was controlling the 1st & 2nd during his attack on Konoha, Hiruzen could have killed them atleast 3X if theY wer'nt Edo. Tobirama didnt even use his signature space-time jutsu. The 1st & 2nd were reduced to jonin level shinobis.

First off, all characters have Fanboys, it's that simple. The only reason you see characters like j-man getting over hyped is because you either are blinded by your own fanboizm...... " if itachi was healthy" which unfortunately won't happen, and that some certain character have more fans then other certain characters.

Second, you talk about the fight with oro and j-man. Dude they where both at same level, with oro unable to use his hands and j-man drugged.

I don't even know what this is ^. I like Itachi but Sasuke is my favorite if you must know. Itachi was indeed healthy when he was younger at one point and fact proves he owned a Sannin.

Realtiy: Oro was underestimating Hiruzen and never performed any of the 1st and 2nd hokages best techniques. Fact is Hiruzen caught Oro in a death reaper seal which was a suicide move to begin with because he would have lost either way.

Reality: Jiraya takes to long to enter sage mode and without won't stand against most top ninjas.

Why people still dont know that quote of Itachi's and Kisame's conversation they were talking about the Kyubi first, then about Jiraiya? really its pretty obvious Itachi is above Jiraiya, imagine Pain and Itachi against Jiraiya, Itachi was referring to the Kyubi, go check out REI's Manga translation error thread, use search function and you'll get to the thread, its a major mistranslation mistake. Btw Jiraiya is not THAT overrated in comparison to Minato, that character has fanboys you wont believe in other forums, i like his personality but the character is boring as hell in fighting style, jiraiya is a way better character.

Yes, Jiraiya's sage mode is somewhat overrated, but the false hype given to it is nowhere near that given to Hiruzen.

A could dodge Amaterasu only with Raiton armor lvl 2 activated, lvl 1 was not enough and I dont think Jiraiya was even that fast.

Short look into Sharingan is enough to be trapped into Genjutsu. Also, Gai is the only character from manga that is able to fight against Sharingan users without looking into their eyes at all. He said that only after numerous fights with Kakashi he was able to learn that. Please, dont give Jiraiya skills he dont have.
