Yes, the Yang portion of the Kyuubi only appeared because Minato sealed away the Yin portion inside the Key, not the Shinigami.

Madara was not involved, yet involved in the Kyuubi attack on Konoha 16 years ago.
Minato battled Madara once, the Kyuubi twice, and sealed the Kyuubi twice on the same fateful night.
First let?s take a look at the Kyuubi and its appearances in Naruto. We?ll start with the first appearance in the timeline.

Now we know that the Kyuubi does in fact have both Yin and Yang chakra, and I believe that the Kyuubi has yet to be shown as its full self. For this to be true we will have to assume for now, that Madara could only summon the Yin manifestation of the Kyuubi. Look at the first image of Madara fighting along side the Kyuubi, and then the image of the Kyuubi when it attacked Konoha (Both of these pictures come from the same chapter) notice how the Kyuubi is shaded in so darkly in the first picture and is practically white in the second one. YES I know the Kyuubi is red, but as a very skilled Author AND an Artist, I can only believe Kishimoto did this for a reason. That reason was to hint that the Kyuubi can occur as separate Yin & Yang manifestations.
What I?m saying is; the Kyuubi Madara used to battle Shodai was the Yin manifestation of the Kyuubi, and the Kyuubi that attacked Konoha and was sealed by Minato was the Yang manifestation. That?s all for now concerning the Kyuubi, but I will support this further on if you would continue reading.
Ok, so it?s time to take a look at Madara and his relation to the Kyuubi. Madara has been shown as being able summon and to control the Kyuubi with his Sharingan. But I believe that he is in fact, only capable of controlling and summoning the Yin manifestation of the Kyuubi. Yin chakra is the dark chakra, and I believe that Yin chakra itself has some relation to the Sharingan. This can be viewed as the reason why Madara is capable of controlling and summoning the Nine Tails' Yin manifestation.

We see here that Itachi says that Madara was behind the Nine Tails attack on Konoha.

Now we see Madara saying that the Kyuubi?s occurrence in Konoha was a natural disaster. I believe that Itachi was telling the real truth, but in a way, Madara was not completely lying to Sasuke. This contradiction of Itachi and Madara can be solved through the explanation that the Yin & Yang Kyuubi manifestations BOTH occurred on the night Konoha was attacked.
Madara originally summoned the Yin manifestation of the Kyuubi to attack Konoha but he was intercepted by Minato and possibly Kushina. Madara was most likely defeated at this point, and the Yin manifestation of the Kyuubi was sealed into the death god. There is currently no explanation of Kushina?s death, so to support this theory, let?s say that she was used as the sacrifice to seal the Yin Kyuubi into the death god.
This is where Madara?s story ends, and where I will begin to focus once again on the Kyuubi and Minato.
First the Kyuubi, in order for me to explain how the Kyuubi manifested twice on the same night I will need to reference aspects of the Yin & Yang concept itself.

o The Yin and yang aspects are in dynamic equilibrium. As one aspect declines, the other increases to an equal degree. For instance, in the cycle of the year, the long days of summer gradually shorten and the nights gradually lengthen as winter approaches. As we see here, Yin & Yang exist in ?dynamic equilibrium?, do you see where I?m going with this? I?m saying that BECAUSE the Yin chakra manifestation of Kyuubi was SEALED away, the Yang manifestation arose in a nearby area (Konoha). This would prove that the Kyuubi did occur twice, and that Madara and Itachi were both telling the truth.
But there is a question that some may think presents a problem; Does this mean that the Yang manifestation also appeared after Shodai defeated Madara/Kyuubi at the Valley of the End? The answer is No. The Yang manifestation did not occur after the battle with Shodai, I believe this is because Shodai merely SUPPRESSED the Yin chakra manifestation of the Kyuubi, he did not remove it from the world by sealing it, like Minato did.
Finally, let?s move on to the greatest shinobi in history and his relation to the Kyuubi occurrence in Konoha.

iraiya says that Minato split the Yin & Yang chakra in two, I believe most readers have taken this statement the wrong way. I believe Minato split the Yin & Yang chakra from each other by sealing away the Yin in the death god and leaving the Yang in existence by sealing it in Naruto.
We also see here Jiraiya explaining that Minato went through the TROUBLE of splitting the Yin & Yang chakra in two. Trouble indeed, Minato knew that if he suppressed the Yin chakra that Madara summoned, the Yang chakra manifestation would not form and he would not be able to seal it in his newborn son. This is why he SEALED away the Yin chakra (possibly using the willing Kushina as the sacrifice) instead of suppressing it like Shodai.
Now..About Jiraiya's Premonition..He knew that there is one that is able to control the kyuubi and thats Uchiha Madara..Why have that premoniton at the same chapter of the manga they were discussing kyuubi yin and yang's..?
its because minato knew that sealing away the yin chakra would prevent madara for controlling again the kyuubi..you can see in the first picture that when Senju fought the kyuubi..the color of the kyuubi was dark = yin ( if people says thats the shade of the moon noob..well then there's a moon at the 2nd attack of the kyuubi? am i right? why is it white? ) and at the second attack it was shaded black..anyway that all i can say about the premonition. hope you enjoyed..

Dude thats what I said, the Yang is inside Naruto and the Yin inside the key. But if u read supremespoiler's comment he says the Yin is not insdie the key. The key is only meant to re-enforce the 4th's seal if it becomes weak. When the frog tells Jiraiya that when he told him to just squeak open the seal the chakra took over Naruto and pushed Naruto's chakra away. I guessed Jman told the Frog to open Naruto's seal up a lil to see how Naruto reacted or if he could control it, Im guessing thats what was going on.

Ahhh, ok, ok, this is still a work in progress so let me revise it again.
The Yin chakra was sealed away into the Shinigami's belly, and Yang chakra is sealed within Naruto.
The Key is used to reinforce the seal within Naruto BUT the downside the that is the Kyuubi may be able to reach the Key if it's inside Naruto, thus releasing the Kyuubi into the world yet again and letting Madara finish his plan to destroy Konoha and probably take over the planet if he chooses.

yes..maybe it's sealed away with the shinigami death god..anyways the name of minato's wife is kushina uzumaki..
ok to clear things up..the yin and yang chakra of the kyuubi..the yin has been sealed away by the dead demon consuming jutsu..sealed away with the death god..eventually..the yang chakra was sealed into naruto's body..thats why it said that minato had a hard time splitting those yin and yang chakra and sealing it..Minato made a way for naruto to access the yang chakra..while using the Eight Trigrams Sealing Style and the Four Symbols Seal on the Yang chakra to give Naruto access to it. This way, Naruto could call upon the demon fox's chakra without being completely controlled by it, though the Four-Tailed Transformation seems to negate this effect. Jiraiya states Minato wanted Naruto to have the Seal Key that matched Naruto's Trigram Seal to help complete a yet to be identified technique. Meaning that the seal key and the trigram seal is somehow connected to each other..but that does not mean that the seal key has the yin chakra..please understand T_T

Wait wait wait, but supreme spoiler just said "no the key is just a replacement in case the seal inside naruto is broken". How does that work? Now I am confused because you contradicted each other.
So is the jutsu the fourth wanted Naruto to master to control both the yin and yang or just yang?
Also can the Yang chakra let Naruto go beyond releasing 4 tails or do you have to use the key to do that?
Some people said that the yang only alows Naruto to get to 4 tails and no more.
Last question: Will Naruto have hope of controling all nine tails?

the seal on naruto is the lock on a safe... the frog scroll dude is the key to the safe he can lock it or unlock it... and you cant seal something into the shinigami! you seal it into your own body but since the jutsu is sacrificial you die and so does the soul sealed into you.
the third sealed orochimaru's arms into his stomach didnt yall notice that? he had the seal on his stomach then when he died the soul sealed in him faded as well. the kyubi has mentioned at least twice i think once in a movie tha if naruto dies so does he / she / it'. in the first movie when naruto is thrown in the water or whatever by the bad dude hes sinking and the kuybi says something like "its getting dark; you need my power?" or something to that effect also sometime in either the end of naruto or the begining of the shipuden series naruto had a near death experience and the kuybi said something like "i cant die! use my power so we can both live!" (well nto that exactly but you get my point)

oh.....so since the yin chakra was sealed inside the 4th when he died that means Naruto has no chance of getting the yin chakra then. The yang chakra is supposed to be less evil but it doesnt seem like it.

in a sence i guess... the key unlocks the seal it can weaken or strengthen the seal so yeah it could weaken the seal and let more leak out but thats dangerus because the damage to the body is insane as described in an earlyer manga and if hes not careful the 9 tails could break out!
