Well someone important needed to die. We also got to see Pein's true power. Still when he first died I was like NOOOOOO!! but I don't care any more. I do believe that if Jiraiya stayed in the village it would be better because him, Kakashi and Naruto would be able to hold Pein off while Tsunade heals everyone.

Asuma had already died! lol and yeah, if Jiraiya almost took him down, I'm pretty sure all three would've taken him down
Jiraiya- Sage Mode
Kakashi- Sharingan, Kamui, Lightning Blade, etc.
Naruto- 10 billion clones xd, Rasengan, (Sage Mode if taught)

jiraiya sama along with minato and naruto are the true heros of konoha they didn't kill innocent people to be heros ( itachi )
