why would he do that? why would he be that stupid to die and leave a clone? why not just let the clone fight and stay alive? plus when he died the clone wouldve vanished.

Actually if the original one chakra is not properly flowing correct the clone will vanish. As seen when Sasuke stab his sword in Yamato to make him numb which disrupt his chakra flow and than the clone with Kabuto vanished so if Jiraiya Chakra flow is disrupted by Pain Sword his clone is gone.

PS I can't find the part where the clone disappear of Yamatos but in the Anime Of Rescue Sasuke Arc(not filler) his clone disappear.

well that's not a real possibility, if the host is gone then the clone is gone because it does'nt have chakra to support it, besides who would try that?(to get killed and let a clone survive)
