Where the hell was Jaraiya while Naruto was growing up? He was Naruto's godfather and he just dissapeared... What a bum xd

He probably did'nt want to make it obvious that he was.......everyone knew about jiraiya being minato's sensei, they would have found out about naruto's connection to the 4th and that would have endangered him.

No, J-man was not a bum.

RIP.

In this he said that he doesn't like troubles

By what we knew later on, we can conclude that...

He was depressed after Minato's death that he wasn't the Child of Prophecy and kept searching for him...Then, he also suspected the strange apparition of Kyuubi and began inquiring for this...His lead surely lead to him to the organization Akatsuki where he'll find their motivations. The fact that he was the first to mention about Akatsuki (to Kakashi) make me think that this is the truth.

He definitely was a hero as even if he wasn't here for Naruto's upbringing, he search for Konoha and Naruto's safety. If he didn't inquire all that time, Naruto will already have been captured when Itachi-Kisame assaulted him.

He watched on everyone behind curtains and it can be safely said that the Shinobi Alliance is still not under Akatsuki's control (and surely will not be) thanks to Jiraiya's teaching, information and actions.
RIP J-Man

Didn't he leave naruto in the care of the Third whom then left him under Kakashi's watchful eye, then it went to Jirayai and finally back to Kakashi. Now Naruto is more than capable of taking care of himself since he did surpass his predcessors.

Why would it matter if he was the 4th's son? is the hokage not allowed to have children? They all knew he was the host of the 9-tails anyway so why would it hurt to be known as the 4th's son, who was being watched over by Jiraiya of the legendary sannin? Naruto being known as the 4th's son would not endanger him any more than being the host of the 9-tailed fox, and having Jiraya there would only further ensure his protection.

PLUS he was traveling the world remember??? He is not a bum!!! R.I.P. Jiraiya.
well as long as he was traveling the world its okay to abandon the orphaned son of his favorite pupil, who he saw as a son. [insert sarcasm here]

o_O

jaraiya was gathing information so he not a bum
He was off writing adult books. His main book, which he wrote because of the toad sage was "The tale of the Gutsy ninja". He can gather information while still raising a child. Ninja go on missions all the time, and it could have been the same with Jiraiya.

In this he said that he doesn't like troubles

the point is that he agreed to be Naruto's godparent. Depressed or not, he failed that obligation by dissapearing until naruto was 10.

I agree that he was a hero, but he still could have been present.

He did, but they were not his godparents, Jaraya was. I know he felt he had obligations to uphold, but he could have taken naruto with him.

nah he aint no bum plus every jinchuriki grows up the same way it doesnt matter. the village hates them at first but then they love him after
It's not written anywhere that jinchurrikki have to go through that. The 1st's wife told kushina that in order to host a tailed beast, the vessel must be filled with love. Jaraiya missed to opportunity to raise a great ninja. Just think how much more skilled naruto would be if he was raised by jaraiya

in the end he did his part. I agree.

rofl :D

Good, old bum, Jiraya... I miss that guy.
LOL me too. He was pretty awesome.

I Beleive that Jiraiya was a great hero and an awesome ninja, but this was the one place where he failed.

and if there was trouble wouldn't you want The godfather there watching you? I know I would. xd If Jiraiya had been there even one month a year just to look in on him, he wouldn't have felt so alone.

as others said, he was travelling the world and writing his books
and as I have said, he could have done both. ;)

That's totaly not it...if it was about knowing if naruto was Minato's son. Don't you think that most of Konoha would of known Naruto was the son of the 4th Hokage due to his mum being an Uzumaki and being the only Uzumaki in the village, and being married for Minato, it pretty damn easy to notice but magically only the Kakashi guessed and the 3rd of course knew aswell including the elders.

so Im guessing he had to travel in order to find the child of prophecy...:p

I know that naruto being alone is what makes him such a dynamic character, and is what gives him the courage and will to continue and relate to people. I'm just saying that it's a plothole and the time he spent peeping on wemon could have been spent with the child of prophecy that he had been looking for the whole time.

I would say as God father that would have been his responsibility to raise Naruto like he was his own.... That is the duty of a god father.

Even if it was to be kept secret I am sure there could have been some excuse like him adopting Naruto...

But then Naruto wouldn't have grown up being hated like the other Tailed beast hosts and it would have changed the entire story.

Maybe Kishi shouldn't have mentioned in the Manga that he was the god father and we wouldn't be wondering about this...

Having a father figure show up later in life is always a disappointment. i.e. Naruto punching his dad.

Nope, people would have had the memory of the 4th and his sensei fresh in their minds, it would have caused possible trouble from many a low life when naruto was revealed to be his son.

See what minato said(in my link).....and not everyone of the leaf village can make the connection ...... his mom being uzumaki has jack all to do with him being the son of the 4th. Nagato was uzumaki, trust me ppl don't think he's related to the 4thxd

so you are saying that if you parents were killed and you had a godfather somewhere you wouldn't want him there with you? You would want to be completely alone while people persecute you and call you a moster? You wouldn't need any sort of support system?

People keep saying it will cause trouble. what kind of trouble? no one has answered that question yet.

Lol it's something I've found a bit of a loophole for a very long time. I don't really find it weird that Jiraiya wasn't there when Naruto was young, however I do find it weird how they met.

I mean Minato already predicted more or less the current situation in the manga 16 years ago (that a war with Madara was going to be fought) so Jiraiya has been investigating that all that time. He was the truly the first line in the entire matter, he got the most information about Akatsuki. On top of that he also investigated Orochimaru, who then also went into Akatsuki. Then you need to add to that that it was prophesied that he was going to take a long journey (or pretty much ordered to do so).
He just didn't had time for that. Also seen from his point of view he knew that the 3rd hokage would keep an eye on him. There wasn't any need to start teaching him from the age of a baby, I mean all the ninja first go to the academy, so it's not really weird for Jiraiya letting Naruto just do the academy and such, with other word the basic ninja training like anyone else.

What I find weird is Jiraiya's reactions when he first met Naruto. I mean it was a complete coincidence. Jiraiya was just training him because he knocked out Naruto's sensei. Even when Jiraiya knew who Naruto exactly was he didn't show much interest. I mean if you see the kid that's named after you for the first time (in a way) and you're his godfather it's quite a weird reaction.
