It's befitting for Naruto to be in love by the end of the series.

This is entirely based off of the choice of the Sage of the Six Paths. The Elder Son thought Power was the path to peace whereas the Younger Son thought Love was the path to peace, which was the choice the Sage went for. It would be befitting for Naruto to symbolize this choice by having a significant other by the end of the series as it shows that the Younger son's choice, which was chosen by the Sage (Who shared the same view) as the right choice.

Naruto's gay :| He friendzones the only girl who likes him, he's not falling in love unless Sakura lowers her standards.

Come on guys. It's clear as day it's a strong friendship bond between Sasuke and him. People like to overcomplicate things and call him gay, when all he wants is his best friend back.

I think Naruto will eventually end up romantically involved, that's kind of what people do.

I'm not so sure it's going to kick in at the end of the war, though. For starters, Naruto is still kind of young. The culture in Naruto is deceptively modern, with the average individuals seeming to form lasting relationships in their very late teens to early 20s. He's 16-17-ish (though I would argue that a more realistic timeline for the events seen in Part 2 is at least 3 years, with at least a year passing between Pain's assault on the village and the war arc... but that's me looking at the logistical impossibility of Kishimoto's more recent chapters).

Further, Naruto's character has been somewhat estranged to love and romance as a whole. His character was largely seen as a pest through Part 1, spare for events toward the very end... then he leaves for 3 years to go on tour with Jiraiya. Part 2 has only really shown the shift in popular opinion of him following the Pain invasion (this is even hinted at in his fight against his dark side) - and he's been pretty busy since that.

All of that, combined with his pretty single-minded goal to bring Sasuke back has left him largely without any tendencies toward romance (unless you count his crush on Sakura from the pre-history of part 1). I think any romantic development would have to explain more his development toward the goal of romance rather than how one girl or another ended up in his life.

Sounds very plausible, but that is making Naruto sound more concrete and very single-minded. He obviously cares for more than just bringing Sasuke back, and love will possibly creep its way in there into one of his priorities. I mean, it's clear as day that Hinata loves him, even he can see that. I'll leave it to Kishi to decide (Obviously xd), but I would prefer he end up with someone by the end of the series.

Naruto has been almost selfishly selfless. In a debate I was having with another member, a while back, she (I think she was a she, at least... the internet is inherently ambiguous about these things) made the point that Naruto has developed a sort of complex where he still doesn't feel he deserves to be saved by another person. While I argue that Hinata cut through this quite effectively - it's still a part of his personality that will need some further addressing.

In a lot of ways - Naruto has been living for others and is yet to develop a strong sense of what he actually wants out of life, in the long run. Not that peace and protecting your friends isn't a good thing to live for - the problem is that you don't have anything to hold you over while things are peaceful. Naruto needs more to his personal ambition than just being hokage.

The normal paternal instincts will probably be a bit delayed in him, as he didn't have much in the way of a family to give him ideals of having one of his own, some day. No doubt, the instinct will eventually develop - it may just take a little longer than it does for most, and be a little bit of a cumbersome idea in his mind (as he doesn't have much experience with a family).

This is why I see Hinata kind of provoking that instinct in him - giving him the kind of support he's not really seen receiving from others (now that she actually has developed the ovaries to be direct with him). That's not to say that other friends (such as Sakura) have not supported him - but I think the entire context and nature of their support has been different from the kind of support and role that Hinata will begin to play in his life.

Because I really don't see her taking a depreciated role in his life from here on out. ... That doesn't mean that he is going to take a romantic interest in her (or that their interactions following the war will be romantic in nature) - but it does open up new ground for him to explore a type of relationship he's never had before.
