I think its more likely that he found them, since Zetsu knew of the weapons' existence but had never seen Itachi's Susano'o.

That can't be it though because Orochimaru was looking for that sword as well because it is a sister sword to Kusanagi, they are supposed to have opposite yet complementing abilities. One can cut anything physically while the other doesn't harm physically but spiritually cuts through you. Anyway yeah he knew about it and was looking for it so it can't be just an Uchiha thing, plus why would only Itachi get it and how would there be multiple replicas of the sword when it is a twin sword to kusanagi?
