Actually there is no much to discuss about the answer lays in the anime/manga.
Shishui is better in genjutsu then itachi.
Why do you think itachi was given the mission to slaughter the clan?
Because overall he is stronger then Shishui thats why.
I totally agree shishui takes it with genjutsu but.
Overall itachi would kill shishui with hard difficulty.

yea i agree there was only told that genius like itachi and minato comes once in the history. there was only told that shishui was the best genjutsu user.
But itachi is also a master in genjutsu along with his other powers which shishui probly couldn handle like susanoo and amaterasu. Itachi is unique powers are more and better except in genjutsu.

With kotoamatsu kami shisu can command itachi not to defend himself or to use amaterasu on himself. In that case shisu wins.
If shisu has used kotoamatsukami before the fight he woudnt be able to use it again until 10 years. In that case, ill give it to itachi. We know shisu was extremely strong and was praised along side itachi, but i believe itachi has surpassed him and tbh until we havent seen what shisu can do, therefore he isnt winning this fight.
Also take into consideration that AO claimed he fought him and yet AO is still alive, even though we dont know exactly what happened, i feel itachi will wipe the floor with an opponent (Ao), shishu couldnt kill

Shisui was alot like Naruto, so Im pretty sure, just like Itachi, he was soft at heart. And while he defeated Ao, he spared his life. Shisui didnt seem like a killer especially if he too wanted to end the cycle of hatred in the ninja world. I would have to go with a draw, or shisui with difficulty. Because, I mean honestly, do u REALLY need to see shisui in action to determine his strenght? his legacy alone should show you how powerful he was, as everyone admired him and his power.

shishui wasn storng enough at such age as itachi that makes itachi stronger.
You all guys just suck koto amatsukami which is only a strong type of genjutsu.
but you guys forget amaterasu and susanoo and tsukyomi.
you shouldve answered it but ok.
There never told something about shishui like the manga told us about Itachi.

Firstly how do you know he defeated Ao and spared his life?. Dont get me wrong, i also think this, but there is no proof therefore you cannot use this as an argument.
Second highlighted part. Shusi believed that a shinobi is one who protects peace from the shadows. There isnt many people who admired him or his power. Only those who knew him can say this and there is only a few. (uchiha clan, danzou, kabuto)
right. so realistically Ao would defeat Shisui then? I cant think of any other outcome than Ao's loss. and then shisui sparing his life seeing how he had already defeated him
If the entire Uchiha clan, as elite as they are, Danzou, Kabuto, Tobi, and Itachi, basically some of the most powerful ninja in the series admired their power, it dosent matter how many ppl knew, it matter WHO. otherwise, they wouldnt waste their time even speaking of him
U do realize that it was itachi with only 30% of his original powers in that fight, that wasnt the real one.. right? So his sharingan in that state would only be 30% its power..I think you should re-read that whole chapter.
Also, Itachi was basically leading sasuke on, the WHOLE fight, he wasnt even using half his powers, and not to mention he was already dying...I dont need to try again hun

shishuis genjutsu (koto amatsukami is just overrated) and itachi have also tsukyome,amaterasu and susanoo which people forget when they hear about shishui EYES O.O

For all we know both parties redrew therefore it ended in a draw. You cannot assume shisu beat him and didnt want to kill him although i do agree that, that is a good possibility.
Anyway itachi has way more feats in the manga than shisu therefore he gets this, although im sure even if shisu cannot use kotoamatsukami this fight would still go down to the wire.

And why are people talking about Itachi loosing simply because of Kotoamatsukami? Itachi is a high level Uchiha ninja, im sure he would know how to face one. Especially if its his best friend. And we cant rule out Tsukuyomi (Might not be as powerful but once your hit with it, chances are you will die afterwards) and Amaterasu which are both fast techniques that can end you in 1 go.
