It really depends on how well he can use his ninjutsu, just because he invented it and had the ability to control the tailed beast doesn't mean he can use it to its full potential.. He was known as a god due to the fact that he had no match back then.. If we look at what kishi is trying to tell us " the next generation eventually surpasses the last " its true and can be seen in todays society for example : when television was made it was an incredible achievement for technology but over the years it has continually became better and better
( color and now 3D ) this shows how once something is shown, it eventually becomes inferior overtime. It's undenyable that even in the current age of naruto the sages gifts and abilities are still not to be messed with but do we really know how well he can use them?

This seems massively unfair, even though Itachi is my favorite character and I personally think he is one of the strongest in the manga there is no way he can compare to the host of the ten tail juubi, the person who invented ninjutsu, a man who possessed the Rinnegan and lord only knows what else. Anyone would lose this battle dude.
