Honestly I'm not sure though. Apparently it takes very little chakra to shape and control it though.

Exactly, Kirin is made of 100% Natural lightning, but its clearly not a regular lightning bolt. He uses his chakra to control it and shape it into that form.

Yeah. So personally I think Itachi used full sussano and the damage brought it to skeletal, but then he went past full and went to armor mode.
