he didn't expect the attack, so he got hit with it.. but he probably just phased right through the flames maybe? orrr.. he sucked up the flames into another dimension with his eye

I was just pondering about the same thing.
If you watch this same scene in the anime you'll notice some interesting things. When Madara is hit by Amaterasu he drops his mask and retreats to the shadows. This is where things become interesting. Just listen to the sounds that come from the shadows:
1. 1st he make some weird noise like he's taking a dump.
2. then you hear a sound like a steak is thrown in a hot pan and he screams in agony.
3. then he makes an "uh" sound
3. the something drops on the ground
4. then you can hear flames die out.
5. then after quite a while you'll hear some footsteps with Madara returning unscathed.
After all that Madara has no bruises, no burn marks and clothes is still 100% like nothing happened. And what was it that dropped to the ground. His abdomen was on fire as well so he could not have cut off anything.
To me it sounded like he screamed, died, fell to the ground and was burned to ashes.
