Itachi is a weakass and helpless against Madara's meteor strike, Shisui's kotoamatsukami, Minato's flying thunder god, Hashirama's fuinjutsu and Obito's kamui. Deal with that Itachi fanboys/fangirls. U_U

I think he was released

He was, but his plans were a failure. He wanted to protect Konoha at any cost, but it was destroyed by Pein despite all the effort. He killed his family, his clan, his girlfriend and even himself all for the sake of the village but what happened?.... U_U

He entrusted Sasuke in a way to protect the village but he has gained power and has a firm intention to destroy it, again. Then he wanted to save the shinobi alliance by releasing Edo Tensei as a last objective but Madara, the most powerful edo managed to cling on. He failed... yet again. -_-
